brain rot - but the good, permaculture-y kind. Soft moss, lichen and mycoremediation (mushroom emoji) taking hold of a decomposing society might mean a better future. Mpls for 33 years, NE MN for now bsky platform skeptic. 🐘 leanside.org/@kjell

I actually think we should prioritize trees at basically any cost. To get the bike lane build, just close the street to cars and put the bike+walk lane in the existing car ROW. My modal hierarchy is Trees > bikes + peds > cars.

reprogram all the gas pumps with video screens to play these climate crisis videos nonstop. How can we make it explicit that everyone who pumps a single gallon is guilty?

simplified: driving […] destroys morality "The automobile has dissolved the living tissue of the city. Its appetite for space is insatiable; moving & parked, it devours urban land, leaving buildings as mere islands of habitable space in a sea of dangerous & ugly traffic." —James Marston Fitch, 1960

This weekend I heard about a Spring '25 college grad with an undergrad degree in Electrical Engineering who couldn't find a job for a year, and when they finally did this month… It was managing construction of a data center to further destroy the employment prospects of newly-graduated EEs

A group of bikers rolling down the Midtown Greenway in the early days of summer. IMO it’s impossible to overstate how important the greenway is to Minneapolis, we’re so lucky to have it. June 2026

This illustrates why I'll never respect my state's hegemonic newspaper. Let's all keep yelling at jacub fray and amy K… But don't forget that they're just clowns and it's our media running the circus. One of the ringleaders is this paper's owner, an oligarch and former republican state senator

"The Dinosaurs" was one of my favorite show as a toddler. I remember my parents clicking it on for me before I could work the remote. I loved the dinosaur family and their antics. As an adult when I re-watched it I had the same "wow" reaction

I'm on this train. Park your vehicle in the bike lane? You're taking the bus for 6 months, bozo. The problem is the US doesn't have a workable society without car addiction. If Jane Shmane from Godfuck Virginia loses the ability to drive it leads to lost work/income and the poor kids have to starve

it's worth noting how instantly and viscerally I clock which bike lanes feature in this series of photos. Shows how each micro-stress from dodging parked cars/trucks in a "protected" lane compounds over time. Here's a bike infra safety map I made forever ago: observablehq.com/@kjell/rende...

Many birds are migrating now, to help stop bird window strikes keep lights out 11pm to 6am and make windows bird safe flap.org
You can still help protect any birds that pass through your region tonight by turning off all nonessential lighting from 11:00PM tonight until 6:00AM tomorrow morning. Bright lights attract and disorient nocturnally migrating birds, potentially causing fatal collisions with buildings or exposure to additional day time hazards. Learn More and Subscribe

this is what I daydream about. Plus bike/walking paths. State and county highways also trade existing unsafe ROW for modes higher up the mobility pyramid, separated pedestrian paths, renewable energy, and green/blue infrastructure. De-congestion fees on remaining vehicle miles pay for infra upgrades

This is a legitimately great idea. Turn every ICE concentration camp into a museum of their crimes and the people who fought against them.
In her letter to lawmakers, Thompson asked for help to close the facility and transfer its ownership from the federal government to the village for redevelopment as a museum. The “Broadview Justice Corridor,” as she called the project, would turn the ICE facility into a “national center dedicated to immigration history, civil rights education, civic leadership, and cultural tourism.

“This transformation would convert a site associated with fear, protest, and division into one that promotes education, reconciliation, and national dialogue,” Thompson wrote in the letter, estimating the proposal would draw up to 250,000 visitors annually and generate up to $31 million in economic activity.
