“Netflix’s competitors have been turning away from the binge-drop model in favor of more or less weekly schedules, because they’ve realized — or relearned — that the time when a show’s not on the air is as important to building its audience as the time when viewers are actually watching.”

A $3 @mta.info subway fare and some good Q train timing can buy you one hell of a view of the July 4th fireworks and the Brooklyn Bridge light show! Huge shoutout to the train operator for slow rolling over the Manhattan Bridge and the conductor for announcing it.

We pack a handful of folks into a tin can loaded with explosives. The computers are running Windows and the toilet is malfunctioning. We hurl them at a distant rock. Everything about where they are is deadly. And it is sublimely beautiful, one of the greatest things we’ve done as a species. #Artemis

My favorite days in California are when the light is warm and the air is still cool. Neighborhood ravens parry clicks and gronks, a tandem glide. The sun sets like the release of a hug, both too soon and exactly on time to see the smile in the eyes of the night.

i know i've been pretty quiet but here's the result of my January: a totally handmade, fully-functional marionette created for a local winter-themed puppet show. she's called the Winter Maw & she'll eat you alive, just like real winter
a handmade marionette monster photographed in front of a snowbank. it has long arms with branch-like hands, a long neck with a false human face & a lower jaw like a sperm whale, & is dressed in all white/off-white lace & rags with pearl accents. watermark says "Ezra Rose"a close up of the face of the marionette with its open jaw & teeth visible below.

NYC’s Moondance Diner. Wrote this in 2018. ☕️
Lauren chats with Sunny at the counter inside the Moondance Diner. Still photograph shot on film.An Instagram caption reads:

Sunny Sharma was one of my first “true New Yorker” buds during my freshman year at NYU. I’d seen the Moondance Diner in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man and thought it was a beyond cool location. I started going on my own, sitting at the counter, carving a spot in a city that was now my home. Then I brought friends. I became a regular. My greasy spoon. I remember the coffee—with just a pinch of cinnamon—that he’d have ready for me before the door could jingle shut. We took a small crew there for a student project—when this photo was taken—and Sunny told us stories over burgers and fries. About the Holland Tunnel crowds. About the quirky charm of the building itself. About how he stayed open to hand out food to volunteers and service folks in the weeks after 9/11. Sunny and Moondance aren’t there anymore—kicked out for a luxury hotel—but I think of him often, his kingdom in a train car on Sixth Ave, his generosity of spirit. And sometimes, I add a pinch of cinnamon to my coffee.

When I argued for longer TV seasons, it was primarily about the creative advantage of spending more time with characters, and having room to experiment. But it's also clearly something the audience wants, and the business finally seems to be recognizing this, as per @snoodit.bsky.social's article.
