It's actively insanity inducing to be a survivor and a feminist right now because in the face of the sheer ubiquity of sexual assault and the lack of consequences for it, we're all being besieged by demands that we think of the rapist men, forgive the rapist men, cleanse the souls of the rapist men

To quote media theorist Marshall McLuhan, "The medium is the message." Sharing a political meme generated using a billionaire's plaigarism machine undermines the sentiment indended by this image. This is also appropriating a symbol specificly associated with Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women.

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

Do any "feminist retellings" of the Odyssey explore the perspective of Eurycleia, Odysseus's enslaved nurse, or is that type of story exclusively reserved for royalty and goddesses?

Made one for the Asaemon too! There's ordering within tiers on this one. It was kinda trickier than the criminals because of how much the Asaemon change. I know Genji changes his mind about the sexism right before he dies but that was a bit too abrupt to raise him to the "character growth" tier imo.
Asaemon morality tierlist. Tenza is in the top tier with the caption "ACAB, but..." Shion, Sagiri, and Fuchi are in the "character growth" high tier, Senta is in "feels bad uwu," Kisho is "median samurai," Eizen and Genji are in "Bad vibes +CEO of misogyny," and Toma, Shugen, and Jikka are in "rat bastards" tier.

I wonder what it would be like to write the same column, over and over again, endlessly. Seems like it’d be boring. But maybe it brings one comfort, like having your parents read you the same story every night before you go to bed.

I don't disagree with the thread below but frame it somewhat differently as an academic who regularly sees people who read for a living fail in the way described here. From that perspective it seems more a cultural crisis than an educational one

"Warren Court liberal" factoid actualy just statistical error. Wild Bill Douglas, who lived in a cave and wrote over 10,000 left-leaning judicial opinions each year, is an outlier adn should not have been counted
Washington University's graph of the ideological leanings of SCOTUS Justices from 1935 to the present on a point scale. Justice Douglas is represented in a very noticeable and steep slope downwards towards the most liberal end of the spectrum in his later years, the only such slope on the graph.

#OTD in 1893, New Zealand became the first self-governing country in the world to grant all adult women the right to vote in national parliamentary elections. The first election held after this milestone was in November 1893--an incredible 82% of registered female voters voted. #WomensSuffrage
This image shows a bronze bas-relief detail from the Kate Sheppard National Memorial located on Oxford Terrace in Christchurch, New Zealand. A tribute to New Zealand's women's suffrage movement, depicting prominent campaigners. From left to right, the main figures featured in the sculpture are Meri Te Tai Mangakāhia, Amey Daldy, Kate Sheppard (center next to a wheelbarrow of suffrage petitions), Ada Wells, Harriet Morison, and Helen Nicol. The monument honors the landmark 1893 Electoral Act, signed on 19 September 1893, which made New Zealand the first self-governing country in the world where women won the right to vote in parliamentary elections.
