All the discussion about the consciousness (or not) of AI kind of reminds me of the question of whether or not viruses are alive. Maybe important to a small group of experts, but ultimately for me it's enough to just know what they do and that I don't want one.

Our house had recently burned down, one of us said they had to go to the hardware store and I briefly misheard. Just a little flicker of misunderstanding, but we all needed a laugh very badly so I said "hardblard store?!" Got the laugh we needed and that's what we call the hardware store now.
