Who knew you could sell images of copyrighted characters with some nonsense AI text above for £3/pop! (And the fact that people are paying for this instead of just saving the image from the page is wild.) www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1...

This is what a real customer journey looks like. Note how your tracking/attribution tool would not show it this way at all: #MarketingInPublic

Here are some of the marketing stats we track every month for my SaaS. If you don't know how much a lead is worth, how will you know how much you can spend to acquire it? Note how we track LTV but also 1mo and 3mo mark. Bootstrappers have to be careful with using LTV only. #MarketingInPublic

A huge downside of thousands of customers if you feel gun-shy about making changes. If you change the way something is phrased in the interface, you could confuse everyone. So you stop making improvements. This is something to actively fight, and also why little guys can compete with big guys.

It's bonkers that teams distributed across the world (asia, europe, north america) having regular calls has become a normal thing to do. This is not the way.

The SMARTEST thing an entrepreneur can do is pay themselves very well along the way. I have a friend whose business was decimated by SEO changes. But they've been taking home and investing a super healthy 6-figures every year for years. Instead of going into desperation mode they were fine.

YOUR EMAILS ARE MEANT TO BE IN THE PROMOTIONS TAB. They are promotions. For your business. That's where they belong. Don't stress about it.

I beg of you, try running google ads for high-intent keywords for your #SaaS. It is THE instant, easy shortcut to guarantee that people actively searching for you know that you exist. You are overthinking the spend.

If you want to lower your churn . . . The most impactful thing you can do is improve your product. If you know what would make your product more valuable, put resources into building it. If you don’t, put resources into finding out.

We have this as one of our company rules: "Do not access slack on your phone! We want you to be fully present, prepared and focused when you're signed on to slack." Are you team slack on your phone or no?

From Our Paperbell "How We Work" Handbook: Tiny Team, Big Results Keeping the team small has many second-order benefits like easier communication and less bureaucracy. We keep the team as small as possible, and always default to project-based specialist freelancers first.  >>>

I used to waste a lot of time "coaching" my team on things that were none of my business. Their perfect productivity routine. Why they were feeling unfocused. Now I'm completely results oriented. We talk about the work and the systems needed to get the work done. Their psychology is up to them.

Common SaaS pattern: 1. I'm out of gas, I should just sell this business 2. I don't have amazing growth and the biz is nowhere near worth the 7x ARR I told myself it was 3. I gotta keep working to get that growth 4. Numbers keep getting worse, eventually sell for even less

Tiny, experienced teams for online companies is my hill to die on. If anyone on your team needs a manger to check all their work or keep them on task you're wasting money and time.

I fundamentally believe the easiest way to achieve whatever you want is simply to make sure your actions move you in that direction every single day. In other words: you get what you go for, not what you dream of. Read more here >> buff.ly/3F0ZSbQ

I have no 1:1 meetings with my team. If I have constructive feedback, I leave it on that specific task. We never discuss their career future or anything like that. They already know we plan to keep our team tiny, and we have no managers. So we only hire people that love the current role.

I find a lot of founders limit paid ads because they "feel" too expensive. Currently one customer from ads costs us about a year's revenue. Yes, it is high and higher than I'd like! But it still makes sense for the business' economics. Even though it feels really expensive.

WE MUST PUT A STOP TO un-asked-for intros. I mean the kind where someone (trying to be helpful) introduces two people, but neither person asked for the intro. Usually the connection is not needed/useful and it's sooo awkward.

People often think I'm exaggerating when I say my company has no meetings. They think I mean no standups , or no recurring meetings. But we actually have no meetings, of any kind. No. Meetings!

When I'm hiring, I have all applications go into a spreadsheet. As I review them, I mark each one red, yellow or green. Red are no. Yellow are maybe. Green are next stage. I only follow up w green but having the yellow option makes it less painful than marking allllmost people with red!

USE POSTMORTEMS! This just means write down what happened. You will be sooo glad you did this later and you could revisit the details of what worked and what didn't instead of starting from scratch. Here's a format you can use for the sections: >>>

Listen, if Zapier can find customer support people that actually get issues resolved, then you can find support people for your basic-ass SaaS.

You can set a super high standard for your team without being a workaholic. Standards are the clear expectations that every role has. It does not have to mean long days or being the most present face. Some people in my company work less than me and some work more. We all hit high standards.

Something that works really well at my company is no one and no work can hide under a rock. Nothing happens in email or DM, so projects can't drop into a mysterious black hole. If someone isn't performing it's very obvious very fast.
