First of all, she’s engaged to Kosta, the most boring person in the solar system. Then, second but worse, she never studied astronomy and instead volunteers on the board consisting of society’s meanest girls at a failing modern art gallery.

Her one positive is that the man she always wanted to marry, Alexei, is in a failing relationship. This is her second chance to win him back and secure a happy future. So Kitty ignores that her last memory before the meteorite encounter was Alexei abandoning her on the dance floor for Anna Karenina.

Kitty decides on a fake dating scheme to make Alexei so jealous that he breaks up with Anna. For this to work, she’ll need the perfect man to fake date. While exploring her options, she crosses paths with Varenka, who knows her from a past she’s now never lived. When Varenka offers to help, Kitty finds herself wanting to spend more time with her rather than committing to the Get-Alexei-Vronsky-back Scheme.

But it’s not like she can abandon her second chance for Varenka. Kitty’s seen how the universe has exiled Anna for putting her happiness first. If she focuses on securing a happy future with Alexei she can easily go back to the present where she can erase ever knowing Varenka or she can risk it all and stick around for this person who apparently knows her.

“The hyrdobeacon,” crackled Fish’s reply, “the fore and aft isotrope routers…and the gravitic drive buffer, I think.”
Jayro was frozen as Anora swiped at the nav one-handed. He could feel her warm breath on his palm as she spoke with Fish through his communicator, her hand gripping his forearm almost burning him through his flight jacket. She was close enough to smell the blaster emissions wafting off her, the sharp, citrus scent of the steam bath clinging to her skin. His fingertips were millimeters from her cheek and he wanted to cup her face in his hand and drag her around to look at him with those bright eyes. He wanted to play with the flyaway bit of hair that had missed her ponytail and brush his thumb over her lips until they parted.

PITCH:
Tai’s terrified of humans. Everyone is. Violent pack hunters, humans are notorious for their strength, sharp teeth, and carnivorous appetites. But the ship’s cook is safe among the multispecies crew of the cargo hauler Coreward Baker: everyone knows the warrior species rarely leave their own space. Then Captain Raz hires Clarke, a human horticulturist.
Even after Tai overcomes their fear, they can’t stand Clarke. She’s bossy. Annoying. Useless in the galley, bad in a space suit. She might as well be cargo. Worse, she’s intent on befriending Tai—and why can’t they stop thinking about her, anyway?
That’s when things go wrong. As Tai starts to realize their feelings for Clarke, they’re horrified to learn that nobody on their crew of dropouts and runaways is quite who they seem, least of all Clarke. And it’s no coincidence. Raz reveals they’ve each been handpicked for a heist he’s spent years planning—and no one’s allowed to say no.

“Gross,” the speaker’s crewmate said, oblivious to my alarm. “I hope it leaves soon.”
“Don’t let it hear you say that,” the first worker laughed. She made a show of looking for Humans, her eyes darting from table to table.
It. I frowned. I knew the workers’ language distinguished between people and things, and ‘it’ was an unkind choice of words at best.
The second worker shuddered. “I don’t know why we let them come here.”
The first laughed. “Are you going to stop them?”
