I have many because there's a lot of yearning going on, but this one from Darshil’s POV is probably my fave. It was inspired by the Oscar Wilde line "the curves of your lips rewrite history". #SumLuv

He’d rather have had the honour of peeling away those layers of finery himself. Instead, he settled for staring as Rowan’s shirt fell to the floor. It was a poet’s job to seek out beauty, to be mesmerised by it. Darshil wanted to transform Rowan into swirls of ink, to fit his hands into the slight dips where Rowan’s waist met his hips and write him a thousand times over.

Darshil heard the smile in his voice and inhaled deeply. He had faced visions from beyond the Veil. He could fasten a corset.
He took the ties in his trembling fingers. Rowan bent over and braced his hands on the bedpost, the heat of his body palpable. Determinedly not looking down, Darshil adjusted the ties row by row before giving them a tug.
“Harder,” Rowan said.
Gritting his teeth, Darshil yanked furiously. This drew a sharp intake of breath from Rowan, whose back arched.
“A little more,” he said.
Darshil pulled again, then tied the lacings into a knot, fingers clumsy, chest tight. Somehow, he managed to do a somewhat acceptable job. The only thing left out of place was the undershirt, which had caught in the corset and ridden up, baring a sliver of him. A ridge of his spine. The dip of his waist. The mole near his hip. Darshil stared at the lace trim resting against Rowan’s bare skin. Then, holding his breath, he took a step closer and reached out to fix the shirt.
His fingers brushed Rowan’s hip. Rowan gasped, and Darshil’s hand stilled against him, heart pounding at the feel of warm skin and hard leather beneath his palm. A familiar panic set in, the same one that had caused him to pull away from Rowan during their very first kiss. This time, however, the ache of want consumed the panic entirely. He should pull away. But, as Rowan had once said, should and want were different things entirely, so Darshil stepped forwards, until they were pressed together, thigh to thigh, groin to the soft curve of Rowan’s behind. Darshil hardened at that touch, and a soft, breathless moan left Rowan’s lips. Darshil felt that moan in his entire body. He wanted to swallow it, to kiss it from Rowan’s mouth and keep it, treasure it. The corset hugged Rowan’s waist, pressing it into a curve that seemed made for Darshil’s hand. It would be so easy to grab him fully, to bend him further over the bed and…

Then, his eyes never leaving Darshil’s, he slid his hand up Florian’s thigh.
Heat exploded within Darshil. He was all fire and longing and desperation, his entire being fixed on the point where Rowan’s fingers met Florian. Florian’s hand moved higher, and Darshil wondered how far Rowan was willing to go. Would he let Florian fuck him right here, right now, knowing that Darshil would watch every moment just for a second-hand taste?
Through it all, Rowan kept staring, soft moans escaping him as Florian’s hand worked beneath the chemise. Darshil felt those moans in every fibre of his being. He wanted to push Florian away and kiss Rowan until it ruined them both, fuck him just to prove a point, run and deny him everything.

He took the ties in his trembling fingers. Rowan bent over and braced his hands on the bedpost, the heat of his body palpable. Determinedly not looking down, Darshil adjusted the ties row by row before giving them a tug.

Sometime before midnight, Rowan acquired a cigar, which he slipped between Darshil’s lips and lit with an unwavering stare.
“That’s it. Good,” Rowan hummed under his breath as Darshil dragged obediently on the cigar.
Darshil let the heady smoke overcome him. Rowan’s fingers were feather-light upon his jaw, a thumb brushing the edge of his mouth. When Rowan took the cigar and placed his lips where Darshil’s had been, he left lipstick stains.
“We’re thoroughly debauched, darling,” Rowan mused, and Darshil laughed, taking the cigar back and chasing Rowan’s taste.

He lay down, one hand tucked beneath his cheek. As soon as Darshil joined him, he realised his mistake. The window seat wasn’t designed for two. Rowan allowed Darshil as much room as he could, back pressed against the cold glass of the window, but Darshil’s body still brushed his. Muttering an apology, Darshil shifted away as far as he was able, watching Rowan expectantly. His eyes were a softer brown than Rowan remembered. Rowan tried to look literally anywhere else, found himself staring at Darshil’s lips instead, then hastily settled on studying his ear.
“Do you remember what I showed you when we dreamwalked?” Rowan’s voice came out as a croak, and he cleared his throat.
“I’m afraid not,” Darshil replied. “It was a while ago, and…uh…”
“A lot of other memorable things happened that night?”
“Just stick to the point.”
Rowan opened the bottle. The mist emerged from its neck, testing the air curiously. When Rowan beckoned to it, it coiled around his wrist and adorned his fingers alongside his rings. Setting the bottle down beside him, he held out his hand. Darshil stared at it for a moment before threading their fingers together. Rowan breath hitched. Darshil’s hold was tender yet confident, as always. The mist responded to him like an old friend, wrapping itself around him and binding his hand to Rowan’s. Darshil inhaled sharply.

Steeling himself, Darshil stepped into the sea of men. They paid him no heed as he pushed his way through, his muttered apologies going unheard. As he reached the bar at last, the nearest man gesticulated wildly to a friend, his drink spilling onto the floor. Darshil staggered backwards out of the way and collided with something solid.
“Watch where you’re going,” a voice snapped.
Cursing himself, Darshil turned. The voice belonged to a man with sleek, black hair and a disgruntled scowl. He sat on a stool, one long, thin leg resting atop the other, and a glass of gin in hand. Several empty glasses littered the bar beside him.
“My apologies,” Darshil stammered. “I didn’t mean to disturb you! I was just…”
He gestured aimlessly to the bar.
The man’s piercing gaze roved over him. He raised an approving eyebrow, his scowl fading.
“Don’t worry. This place is uncivilised on a good day.” He smiled. “May I buy you a drink?”

“What else do you like about me?” Rowan asked.
“Oh. Uh…”
Darshil studied Rowan. There were, he realised, many things he could list. The elegant swoop of black hair against his forehead. The sharp hollows of his cheeks. Rowan’s eyes gleamed, and Darshil noticed for the first time how impossibly blue they were. He likened them to the last calm before a storm, or the ocean at dusk, then realised his mind was wandering into clichés.
“You have a very…shapely nose.” Darshil said, deeming the comment mundane yet polite.
Rowan blinked, his brow creasing. Silence fell between them, while over by the bar, a crowd burst into a rowdy song. Darshil turned his attention to his wine glass and was surprised to find it was already half empty.

“I’m sorry, I don’t quite know what you mean.”
“I doubt I could be clearer,” Rowan replied. When Darshil continued to look at him blankly, he frowned. “You do know what sort of establishment you’re in, don’t you?”
“A drinking house. A very friendly one.”
“Have you ever heard of a molly-house?”
“Who’s Molly?”
