Meanwhile the Toronto, Ontario, and Canada Arts councils have all drastically cut funding for artists and arts institutions

We all know that paintings of flowers are one, but is it any kind of recession indicator that I’ve spent the last year photographing a LOT of exhibitions that are basically just completely dark rooms?

Have a great Labour Day weekend everyone

The Ontario government is ghoulishly cruel, greedy, and the limits of this know no end. Making school supplies more expensive for teachers, ripping out bike lanes, destroying parks for mega-spas, closing science museums, underfunding healthcare. Incredibly frustrating that there’s no end in sight

"we should rename Mar-a-Lago something funny, make Google display that" My brother in Christ, the Ontario legislature can declare Google's workers in Ontario to be unionized and assign their collective labour rights to whichever union will be most militant, think bigger

Ughh 🙄 I bet the curator’s exhibition fees eclipse what the artists were paid too

Great article! Loving something doesn’t mean unquestioningly praising it, but imaging how it could be improved so it can endure. Especially great points about winter maintenance

Let me guess: the artists are missing but there’s at least one curator who gets listed?

Every conversation about bike lanes is like: "Car crashes kill a huge number of people every day, including pedestrians, cyclists, & car occupants. Good bike infrastructure has been shown to make everyone safer (& doesn't increase congestion)." "But sometimes cyclists break rules & hit people!"

Like it or not, AI use is widespread and you've got to deal with that reality. All kinds of people enjoy this tech: fascists, inarticulate hacks, dipshits, people who can't read, the unemployable, the worst bosses you've ever had,

Two men climbed onto the food truck behind my apartment, singing along to an Italian song with their arms around each other. The song ends, they climb down, sing the next song while hugging in the parking lot until, 2/3 through, one of them starts to violently vomit. Toronto summer energy is here

I have been hearing from friends on juries that massive weighted priority is being given to first time grant recipients. People who have long histories of successfully receiving multiple grants are not as prioritized

Honestly the apricots are out of this world. In Kamloops a student would give me bags of them from her tree and they were incredible. Kelowna is nice if you want a vacation with a lot of comforts and amenities, people drive everywhere, everything is air conditioned, it’s more stuff than nature

I always suspected the end goal is having us rent intelligence from big tech the way we now only ever rent other intellectual property instead of ownership. You can’t own movies any more and you can’t own knowledge, but you can rent them for limited use

They released numbers once & shut it down bc humanities were producing huge $ for uni & engineers, business and scientists were losing $
