I saw the Bayeux Tapestry today. Despite the somewhat rushed experience, it is truly awe-inspiring to stand before something so old, each stitch placed by the skilled women embroiderers of a conquered people, and preserved and cared for by generations. It's astonishing that it still exists at all.

I love this. Hudson Williams is the best "new" Canadian celeb in a while. Dude gets outfitted in over $150,000 of fashion & jewels for galas. To honour Truth & Rec, he wore a BC Indigenous designer's work on the red carpet -- and PAID for it. Guy had over $12,000 in sales by the day's end:

From account Gothicself
I watched a video about a female grizzly
who adapted to raising her cubs within 100
ft of humans. Experts surmise that she
does this because male grizzlies will avoid
humans (and male grizzlies are a threat to
cubs). So women pick the bear, the bear
picked humans and no one picked men. A
modern day fable if you will.

My Rage Against the Machine/Les Mis mashup is complete. This is my interpretation of the quilt guild’s summer challenge “quilt with your interpretation and/or feelings towards our current ‘democracy’” all hand stitched.
Quilt hanging on a card catalog. Neutral background with navy cursive appliqué “Do you hear thr people sing?” The background is embroidered in red starting light and getting bolder the lyrics to “killing in the name” the quilting effect is a focused sunburst from the center.

Hydrangea Forest, Japan
Tumbling in soft, pastel cascades down a shaded woodland slope, a dense carpet of hydrangeas (ajisai) transforms a towering cedar grove into a sea of muted color. Rounded mophead clusters in shades of cerulean blue, lavender, deep violet, and blush mauve crowd the understory, their delicate petals luminous against dark, moist earth and lush foliage. Soaring vertically through the floral expanse, the straight, dark trunks of Japanese cedar (sugi) create a rhythmic structural grid, filtering soft, diffused light through the high canopy to bathe the forest floor in a cool, overcast glow.

Native to Japan, the hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla) has long been celebrated as the definitive herald of tsuyu—the early summer rainy season. Frequently cultivated in woodland precincts and temple grounds—giving rise to the beloved moniker Ajisai-dera ("Hydrangea Temples") across regions like Kamakura and Kyoto, as well as expansive mountain sanctuaries like Michinoku in Iwate—the flower thrives in acidic, damp soil. In classical Japanese literature and poetry, ajisai is known colloquially as nanatenge ("seven transformations") due to the way its petals shift hue from pale green to brilliant blue or violet as the rain changes the soil chemistry. This dynamic shift made the flower an enduring symbol of transformation, patience, and gentle resilience through the damp, mist-laden months of June and July.

it's two things, to me: 1) trans rights matter because trans people matter and deserve rights, not just because failing to stand for trans rights is a bellwether for inauthentic progressivism more broadly 2) if you can't be trusted on trans rights you can't be trusted on anything

From the brilliant When There Are Wolves Again by E. J. Swift
We'll never know the truth about deep time, the multitude of ways that humans must have shaped our landscapes in the millennia before the Holocene. But we do know this. In the eleventh century, a self-proclaimed king broke up land that was shared by the many and parcelled it up for his friends. He gave them ordained rights of ownership, to preserve or destroy their new property as they saw fit, and so they proceeded. Take away kinship with the land, and with it the myriad forms (1/2)(2/2) of living and working. Fence off the commons as wilderness and punish those who practise the old ways. Badge other animals as vermin. Set snares for foxes and hedgehogs. Poison carcasses for raptors. Shoot beavers and badgers, bum wild flowers and peat, make shooting estates and say it is all in the name of order, economy and tidiness, but there is no order and tidiness in the slaughter of grouse bred for killing, only blood. And whatever you do, you can't possibly let that old knowledge, that old kinship, those other, untidy, unprofitable ways of being survive, because if you do let them, maybe, just maybe, the violence of your ownership will show its teeth.
