I have repotted so many plants. So many. I didn't want to work in the basement so I set up on a tarp in the living room, but still had to run to the basement a lot and was up and down... Yeah. I had dinner and now I have an appointment with some ibuprofen and a hot bath.

Was abruptly reminded it’s a terrible anniversary. Once my brain had its meltdown over needing a reminder in the first place, I took myself to the cheesecake coffee shop for cheesecake slices to eat/go in the freezer.

I have great taste in plants and I can grow them okay, too. Both these things are very unfortunate when it comes to repotting.

Ugh, I'm just allergy sleepy enough for it to be impacting my actual get up and go to do anything. How much am I going to regret cup of coffee #3? (Which I'm 100% going to go make rn)

I have sent career advisor the requested email. Rather long, but I think it's all useful information. Now it's 100% snack time/second breakfast.

One greenhouse uses wire hangers on their hanging plants that are great for heavy plants right up until you need to repot, then they're a pita to take off and replace. I have now conclusively proven* that effort is worth it.

Went to coffee shop greenhouse for a few specific things and ran into my university career advisor. Spent a good 20 minutes catching up with him, during which my interest in a job change came up. He was on it immediately and now I'm supposed to send him an email, which is an excellent development ☺️

Hair cut this afternoon and otherwise: Plants 😌 Have culled a few before winter gets here. Need to put up a few more lights and still have a LOT of repotting and fertilizing on the list 😅

This! Which tells me, personally, that if they truly believe that its OK to make a sentient being that they enslave, well, they probably think it's ok to do that to humans.

My watch: You've had a stressful day 😔 Me: But I had 4 hours of rest! ...Okay, that was mostly while I was still asleep.
A stress measurement readout from a sport watch. There are mostly tall and taller orange spikes over the day indicating high stress levels. The comparatively few short, blue levels are almost all before 8 am.

Have spent the last 2-3 hours engaged in full body contact houseplant maintenance. By which I mean, I was so over the plethora of rubber plants I repotted all but the oldest/largest into a single pot (tight but viable! 😂) then repotted the oldest/largest. If they live, they live.

2 hours PTO was definitely the right call. Decided to order groceries this week and those have half arrived. Meanwhile I've had a hot bath and gratuitous dessert and it's not even quite 5 pm yet 😌

FREE. And I think I’ve settled on splitting the difference on exams - PE Civil Structural instead of PE Structural/SE (and instead of PE Civil Water Resources). If I need to take it later, I will, but the chances aren’t high.

Def PTO after 1:30 meeting and lunch break in the meantime. Currently looking at example exam questions for the SE (the longer licensing exam) and I may be certifiably insane above and beyond what everyone already knows. This is going to be more than an hour a night studying for sure 😅

Different person managed to seriously piss me off at the end of that meeting and co-worker called immediately after it was over to talk me off the ledge, so that’s how my Friday is going. Completely unrelated, afternoon likely be spontaneous PTO after 1:30 meeting

Therapist, re: main licensing exam: "Since there's only one license regardless of exam, I assume you'll take the easiest one." Me: ... Therapist, grimacing: "I heard it as I was saying it. You'll take the one that seems the most strategic and damn the difficulty."

Huh. Today in "always look up the etymology because sometimes you're just repeating a myth but sometimes it's weirder and more incredible than you could have possibly imagined" www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/c...
Screenshot of Merriam Webster etymology note for cockamamie:
By the look and sound of it, cockamamie (also spelled "cockamamy") could have something to do with a rooster and the outrageous sound it makes. But in fact, cockamamie is believed to be an altered form of the term decalcomania, which refers to the process, invented in the mid-19th century, of transferring pictures and designs from specially prepared paper to surfaces such as glass or porcelain. (The word referring to the picture or design itself, decal, is a shortening of decalcomania.) The word decalcomania comes from French, with décalcomanie combining the verb décalquer, meaning "to trace" or "to transfer by tracing," and -manie, meaning "-mania." Starting in the 1930s, painted strips of paper with images capable of being transferred to the skin were called decals or—in children's slang—cockamamies. Those familiar with today's temporary tattoos will understand quickly that these were regarded by many as silly novelties, lending the word cockamamie the necessary leeway for application to anything ridiculous.

I now have meetings until 5 pm with two half hour breaks but brunch/early lunch was a charcuterie type plate and I’m still on the couch so everything’s going fine :)

Work motivation is such I started today via tablet on the couch. Now I have an hour break until next meeting and I should be doing resource allocations, especially since it's then meetings straight through to 4 pm other than having a lunch break (YAY). But what if... Not now. Later? Later.

Amazing to see Kate Spade New York is the inaugural donor for the real life Irina Foundation, whose fictional inspiration was named for a character who lost their life to suicide. For those who don't know, Spade suffered from depression and anxiety for many years before her death by suicide in 2018.

Magical creatures don’t exist, eh? Roughly 400 million years ago, before the birth of trees, there were giant mystery cones called “Prototaxites,” which grew nearly 30 feet tall. We literally have no idea what they were. Plant: no Mushroom: no Animal: no Tell me this isn’t a little bit magic

8 am meeting to lead but at least it's internal (and possibly the last since co-worker is set to return? unclear) I should be concerned about all resource allocation projections I need to have done in the next 2 (to 3...) days, but I'm really just annoyed.

The Shades of Light sampler, possibly my favourite design to date, was finished #OTD in 2023. #Blackwork #embroidery on 14-count Aida. Pattern here: bit.ly/3VeTYRu
A photo of a blackwork embroidery sampler on black cloth. It consists of 12 inner sections shaped like thin diamonds, and 12 outer sections in larger diamond shapes, arranged to form a circular starburst. Each section is filled with a repetitive geometric motif stitched in white and coloured thread. The threads in each section overlap to form a gradient between white at the inner point of the diamond and a colour at the outer point. The colours are arranged to form a colour wheel. Each section is outlined in white thread.A close-up photo of a blackwork embroidery sampler on black cloth. Apparently needed to reinvent the wheel again this fall and realize I both know why my chest is tight and I'm getting super sleepy every afternoon, and also that I have the tools to make it better. Which is all to say I've gotten out my two extra allergy meds and also used my inhaler.

State of the potting bench. The rolling bin in the foreground has standard bagged potting soil. The bags and bins at the back have soil mix ingredients: orchid bark, chicken sand, worm castings, vermiculite, perlite, black lava sand, leca, horticultural charcoal, pumice, and coconut chips
A shelving unit in an unfinished basement with the top being used as a workbench. There are pots and other assorted plant things on the shelves, a few bags piled at the end, and large bins stacked up next to a door in the far wall.
