The government's opportunity mission set the goal of reaching 75% of children having a good level of development when starting school by 2028. It's good to see this has now reached 68.3%, up 0.6%pts from last year, but still a way to go.

This has 3 implications for policymakers: 1. Recognise complexity so more children are seen and supported. 2. Improve access to early support through reviewing the EYPP eligibility threshold. 3. Reduce challenges to claiming early support, such as simplifying the EYPP application process.

Using contemporary data, Laura’s study shows children’s developmental contexts are multidimensional. She also found that EYPP did not predict early outcomes, suggesting it may miss families facing financial difficulties.

In England, efforts to reduce early inequalities use single indicators, such as EYPP (Early Years Pupil Premium) eligibility. But other demographic, socioeconomic and family circumstances are also important to consider.

Why are Black applicants far less likely to get grad jobs compared to white applicants? They *are* applying but are much more likely (1/3) to get filtered out at the online sift & testing stage compared to white applicants *who attended a similar university* We have to look at these online tests
