Runner up was the story about the medical experiments on the original mice of N.I.M.H in THE SECRET OF NIMH animated film. It’s interesting to understand now that I was responding quite strongly to cruelty (both immediate in this case, and the violence of poverty and persecution above) so young.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding the original proclamation, but it feels uncomfortably close to complaints I’ve heard people make when they are ~uncomfortable~ with stuff like actors of color in Shakespeare productions. For me, Shakespeare is one of the best playwrites if you want to get creative with it.

Mom reflexively saying “oh no” at the end of Furious 1x6 at the same time as I said “yeah bitch”; I’ve truly hit my limit on men. She warned him. He continued. It was defense and I don’t feel badly for that turd at all 🤷🏻‍♀️ This show is very cathartic for me at this moment in our social history.

Another big one is teaching your son to see girls as equals. Instead of enrolling him in sex-segregated sports, introduce him to a co-ed team. And help him foster his more “feminine” interests where we can be in mixed-sex spaces, making mixed-sex friend groups.

I also always think about how little boys are permitted to behave at zoos. Every time I go to a zoo, I watch mothers apologize behind their sons’ backs as they push to the front of the crowd to see an animal. Or worse—they ask other people to move to the side to let their sons cut the line. 😬
