My book is finally back in stock (though we’re down to the last 100 or so copies in this print run) and it’s marked down on all sellers. If you’ve been eyeing it, this is probably the last chance to get it until it’s restocked in early 2027. linktr.ee/billyfleming

I am so wtf about this — texts, maps, music, camera is what is needed. Not AI quests invented by adults. Plus Freckle = Pippi Longstocking to me, the most anarchic character who never needed a play prompt (ick)

I love all the praise for the paper calendar in the responses to "AI for families" type posts. I am so devoted to the paper calendar that my husband makes us a custom one the size of the plotter every month -- it's big enough to read from the dining table.

There are so many things going on in this press release announcing Filene's in Boston is becoming office space. Daniel Burnham, "make no little plans." Department store decline. Adaptive reuse. "Preservation can also be climate action." I actually believe most of this is true, which is rare.

I've been reading bell hooks, and she talks about children being the most oppressed class in society. To this end, the United States has not ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child-- I wrote about this years ago www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-p...

Why won’t the U.S. ratify the U.N.’s child rights treaty?
The non-ratification of the Convention on the Rights of the Child is hypocritical.

Like this view? You won’t experience it anymore if the presidential arch is approved. You’ll just see a militarized structure that is a symbolic embodiment of the brand. Probably will also include a banner with his pic on it, as seen at DOJ and elsewhere. You can comment by 9/29.

Are we in a 'color recession'? : It's Been a Minute
Are neutrals dominating your color palette? Our world is looking kind of gray. Not the trees, the grass or the sky – but the cars, the buildings, the houses, and the decor and appliances in them. Neutrals dominate – like the famous “Millennial gray.” There are a lot of reasons, both structural and cultural, why color is leaching out of some of our most important and most expensive possessions – but what do we think our colors say about us? And what role does color play in our lives today? To get into it, Brittany is joined by Amogh Dimri, assistant editor at The Atlantic and the writer of a piece about “the color recession,” and Katy Kelleher, a writer, editor, and author of the book The Ugly History of Beautiful Things.(00:00) What does the color recession look like?(02:26) How American cities lost their color(06:26) Who's really picking 'Millennial gray'?(08:28) What color choices say about class(13:15) Why color might be scary(20:33) Finding the freedom to be colorfulFor more episodes on tastes, design and material culture, check out:Fashion isn't art. By prompting students to turn to AI instead of to their fellow students, TAs, or professors, these technologies offer the illusion that human interaction is inconsequential. But learning with and from other people simultaneously supports learning and builds the human skills that make the world go ’round.
