50 years ago today... police & paramilitary forces massacred students & protesters at Thammasat University. Today ceremonies of remembrance of those killed took place at Thammasat. The legacy of the massacre & subsequent coup in 1976, still impact Thai society today. #ลบมรดกรัฐประหาร6ตุลา

All ethnonationalism is racism. Sorry to burst bubble. You can't run around criticising boat stabbers for their 'English patriotism' and then say 'oh but all ethnic groups deserve their own homeland' like @owenjones.bsky.social What, anyway, is an 'ethnic group' if not race by another other name?

jesus christ - Myanmar state television has broadcast footage of the migrants on the journey home, being led in aerobics classes on a ship deck and wearing T-shirts saying: "Happy voyage back to motherland".

The notion that Arab states need more statist nationalism as promoted by a bunch of commentators is misguided. There's not disagreement about who belong, but who is sovereign. Palestinians are excluded of course, but none of the other communities are. It's about which group determines the trajectory

Brazil, the world’s top importer of shark meat, is feeding much of it to preschoolers, hospital patients, military staff, public workers and more via government procurements, Mongabay has found.

I will never forget all the cynical gainsaying and disinformation about the strike on Al-Ahli hospital ten days into Israel’s destruction of Gaza. ‘Fog of war’. Almost three years later, fewer than half of Gaza’s hospitals remain even partially functional and there is no fog. Only dust and rubble.

Malaysia calls it “ihsan” (compassion) and “voluntary return.” In reality, Malaysia handed thousands of names to the Myanmar junta, let the junta pick who it wanted back, and extracted signatures inside detention cells. www.rohingyarefugee.news/p/malaysias-...

Behind the government’s grand talk of "ihsan," refugees are being selected by the junta they fled and handed over in the name of compassion.

Americans love their emotional support ethnostate, and in the sense that Americans are not alone in having an emotional support ethnostate, they're not unique It's just the superpower position that makes their emotionally support ethnostate genocidal

it seems like it's ontologically impossible to call an israeli a terrorist, because if you can't call someone who was part of an organized group that snuck explosives in consumer electronics all over a country to detonate in hospitals, doctors' offices, grocery stores, etc..., then what else is he?

This is broadly speaking understandable when you realise that to a certain kind of American liberal, only America actually exists, and the rest of the world is a sort of theoretical argument that is only brought up to distract from the manichaean struggle between Democrats and Republicans.

Today is a very important date in Indonesian history. In a few hours, 61 years ago, the beginning of the anti-communist purges would begin with the slaying of five generals. Australia had a role, though much smaller than the larger powers: www.insideindonesia.org/archive/arti...

Always funny when ostensible liberals are like "You see, this postcolonial conflict is actually very nuanced and complex, because what makes it so very unique is that the majority ethnic group doesn't want to share power with the minority ethnic groups." Oh wow, I didn't know that, that's wild man.

This is a fantastic ad, but it kind of says a lot about the underlying assumptions of American political life that they either won’t, or don’t think they can make even one reference to the death and suffering these wars inflict on people in other countries.

1. Not much, but again - not much didn't lead to the British surrendering and rolling over and showing their belly. 2. Whether they will succeed or not is a different question to if they would respond. You say they would not. History shows that they did.
