Here's a question I don't have an answer to: Are pundits like this, who waffle between progressivism and corporate 'centrism,' helping or hurting the progressive cause? The compromise to corruption is disqualifying, but the environment doesn't permit uncorrupted participants. Seriously, I dunno.

DILLEY DETENTION CENTER NUMBER 2 Call it a “staging facility” all you want. The contract says detention. There’s playground equipment behind the fence. And Dilley has already held children far beyond the roughly 20-day Flores limit. Now they’re building “Dilley 2.” We know what this is!

Our most self-defeating habit: When unable to punch up at their oppressors and exploiters, frustrated and unthinking people often punch horizontally and down, venting their rage onto their peers and those with even less power. From @salon.com's @c-cauterucci.bsky.social

Fellow humans: Being the victim of discrimination and oppression has immunized exactly no one against participating in other forms of discrimination, bias, and oppression. Don't play Oppression Olympics. The prize for first place is, what, erasure from history? How does that help anyone?

Fascinating! Thank you for this archaeological rabbit hole. I had the pleasure to visit both Mérida and Uxmal years ago and have many fond memories, including a respect for the iguana whom have claimed the latter as their own.

Hasan Piker isn't a politician, an activist, a journalist, or high-ranking in some consequential organization. He plays games online for money. People keep elevating Piker because he isn't an ideal messenger. They're rying to drown out rock star progressive professionals like Mamdani and AOC

Have you ever wondered if a decade of social media propaganda bots intentionally trying to turn people against each other has impacted our perceptions? Like, is it possible we're getting wound around the axel trying to defend our hurts as the Most Important Hurt instead of working together?

Way to show off you couldn't be bothered to even glance at my post history. Yeah, I who post to social media maybe 2x/month am "concern trolling" for "engagement" Stop deflecting and answer the question. How is pointing out the BS claims made by all forms of supremacism are identical racist?

How curious that when asked to justify your presumption of bad intent, you literally don't have anything other than dismissal. Almost as curious as how not one of you opportunistic critics has been able to articulate what the problem is with pointing out the parallel between racism and misogyny.

initially missed this reply in the melee to pronounce me a white racist. Would I be willing to write an article instead of commenting on posts that talk about systemic bias to point out how it's all same BS? Sure? Why the hell is that required? Please explain the invalidity of my basic point

Congratulations to every machiavellian, narcissistic loser in the English speaking world. You've successfully convinced majorities of people that people are entirely incapable of sincerity, and only open their mouths to disparage others and lie to themselves. Thanks, Cynthia.

I desperately hope you can get offline long enough to realize that people actually do say things in complete sincerity. No hidden condescension. Not trying to "win" some meaningless social media argument. Just people trying to make other people think.

Ask yourself, is gatekeeping anti-Black racism as somehow totally separate from misogyny of all races helping you? Is it helping anyone? Everyone angrily reacting to this is comment imposing their favorite straw man opponent onto my words. The firewall you want between forms of bias doesn't exist

Hippie racist blather is seeing parallels in the nonsense logic of supremacism? That the same arguments are repeated to disparage, no matter the target? I'm not attacking you, please unclench. I'm trying to help everyone see the basic invalidity of supremacist logic.

I didn't, hence 'hope'. I make this point wherever appropriate, largely in the hopes of helping as many people as possible to see the same logic at work in all forms of discrimination. In full kindness, I hope you can examine your defensive instinct with openness and empathy. Learn from it.

But you aren't the typical person nor the typical thinker. Humans come into the world with an instinct for equity. We have to be taught to think otherwise. What's your argument in favor of inequality? How does inequity help anyone?

(e.g. born with athletic talent vs spina bifida), but an argument that human societies should seek some amount of inequality. I'm really logical, and I can't see the logic here. Guilt and discomfort the privileged have with contemplating the end of their privilege seems a probable motivator... [2/3]

@pitchforkeconomics.bsky.social #askpitchfork Nick, you and some guests occasionally talk about economic inequality as though some amount of inequality is required or desirable, just less than we have now. My impression is it isn't an argument about the unavoidable inequities in life... [1/3]

The psychology involved isn't complicated, just baffling to we who never had an option to stay in childish fantasyland as adults. As Sartre pointed out, we have to live in the world of facts while they flit from one absurd lie to another. Their arguments are props and weapons, not genuine beliefs.

The right's ideal of masculinity isn't about a pro-social model that provides functional aspiration. It's purely about domination and control, might makes right. The "positive" or selling point is the domination and the violence it allows, not some gleaming ideal of responsible manhood.

Hackers find encryption keys stored on stolen Flock camera despite company's denials — group extracts more than 27,000 clips, 1.6 million images captured in a span of 21 days from the device
Flock claims that images are only briefly stored on its cameras before being forwarded to the company’s servers, but a group of hackers determined that this wasn’t the case.

So how does a 30+% rise in inflation over 6 years translate into a CPI rate that, according to Stancil, is entirely normative? Those two facts don't align. Likewise, an inequality gap greater than at any point in history tells a very different story. Stancil, BTW, has not cited sources.

Haiti is the singular instance of nationstate arising out of a slave rebellion. In hopes of preventing similar outcomes, rich white men have spent centuries ensuring 'Haiti' is a synonym for hell on earth. The only way the know they're "winning" is if all the rest of us are suffering.

At the FBI, a history of hiring prostitutes or stealing from employer may no longer be a barrier to being hired
In June, the FBI quietly lowered some of the standards it uses when it conducts background checks on would-be federal agents and other personnel.

You've had an hour to justify yourself and haven't done anything. Debt is the money owed to outside creditors. Deficit is the difference between government outlays and revenues. Meaning Bush II inherited an economy that could balance its costs and income, and promptly destroyed it.
