Shawarma achieved and currently waiting on BART. Slight flaws in today's plan; I downsized purses for maximum rain convenience but neglected to bring an extra bag. The bag with my food is paper.

I braved the rain to go to the downtown post office. The question before me: get back on BART now and go home or walk to the shawarma joint and pick up lunch first.

A part of me is leaning into memories of my father and his deep loathing of the GOP until the day he died. Why so deep? He was a Republican (like a lot of Black folks of a certain age) until the California party decided that him being Blackity black was a problem. That was the tip of the iceberg.

My parents were very average rude and cranky Black folks but they made it through a lot of shit to get me and my brother here. I am the only one left. If you think I'm a little rude and cranky they're the reason why.

The movement to hijack the SCOTUS started about 40 years ago. Those same folks are trying to replicate that on the state level. None of us can go back in time and stop the federalist society and the rest of those ghoulish groups from being founded but we can stop their dark money now.

And this is why I keep telling Californian's to watch all local elections and the statehouses. The Dems still have a majority. If you want to keep these fuckers on their heels, cut them off at the knees now.

James Sherk was announced as Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy on January 18.7 A White House official during Trump’s first term, Sherk was a key figure in Trump’s endeavors to purge civil servants and replace them with loyalists through an effort known as “Schedule F”.

James Sherk authored the joint OMB/OPM memo on return to office implementation plans and the joint memo authorizing the federal civilian hiring freeze.

James Sherk authored the joint Office of Management and Budget and OPM memo (archive) on return to office implementation plans. The guidance in the memo echoes a November 20, 2024 op-ed in the Wall Street Journal by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy outlining their “Doge Plan”, where they wrote: “Requiring federal employees to come to the office five days a week would result in a wave of voluntary terminations that we welcome”.5 The memo has earned criticism from the American Federation of Government Employees, the largest federal employee union, which expressed that the directive would “undermine” the government’s effectiveness by limiting their ability to attract talented employeees and maintain continuity of operations in emergencies.6 Sherk also authored the joint OMB and OPM memo (archive) providing guidance on the federal civilian hiring freeze — another effort towards the goal of slashing the size of the federal workforce.

As far as I can tell, Peters’ role in the administration has not been officially announced. However, as far back as 2023, The Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 was recommending him for a position in Trump’s second administration.

Noah Peters is the true author of the OPM’s January 27 memo providing guidance on the Schedule F executive order. Peters also authored the memo exploiting loopholes to bypass limits on political appointments.

Noah Peters is the author of the OPM Acting Director Charles Ezell’s January 27 memo (archive) providing guidance on the “Restoring Accountability To Policy-Influencing Positions Within the Federal Workforce” executive order, which is being described as the “Schedule F” order because it effectively reinstates that policy under a new name (“Schedule Policy/Career”). Peters also authored the January 20 memo (archive) from Ezell, which exploits loopholes to bypass limits on political appointments.1 Both of these memos are clear steps towards achieving a primary goal of Project 2025: to expand President Trump’s power, and to replace career civil servants with Trump loyalists.

The people now in charge of the Office of Personnel Management apparently don’t know how to scrub PDF metadata, and have exposed the original authors of the guidance they’re publishing. Two, Noah Peters and James Sherk, have links to the Heritage Foundation and Project 2025.

In short: does this administration have a long history of getting in their own way bc they’re incompetent venal fucksticks? Yep. Does remembering that make you feel better? Great! Should that be your response to someone telling you they’re worried as a potential target? Absolutely fucking not.

Yesterday I spent time on TikTok watching people say goodbye to one another. It was hard and it was sad. Not just about followers, but folks who shared recipes, their pets, silly shit that got them through the day.

So, earlier I talked about wanting to get a typewriter. I was brought up on the IBM Selectric II; I've had many jobs that hinged on my typing ability. I'm considering a manual typewriter. Those of you that have one, talk to me: what do you have and why do you like it.

Yep, I got it too. Honestly, I'm glad we are being told upfront that the fix is in.

In the midst of things feeling a little like hellfire, I got word today that a story of mine has been accepted for publication. Still have to see what edits they want and if there's stuff in the contract that I don't like but for now, I 'll take the win.

Now is a good time to get into preparedness, wherever you are. Being individually prepared is a good way to be in a better position to help others. Your basic goal, to start, is to be ready for three days in your home without power or water and to be able to leave quickly if need be.
