@dreamwidth.org Hi, I can no longer access the site either on my desktop, laptop, or my tablet. Everything is timing out. Is this possibly a site wide problem or more local?

I absolutely love BROOMS and have recommended it to many folks.

Hands, as they say, were caught.

As an election worker, I am way past being surprised by his bullshit. He's just talking out of his neck.

ladyjax @ladyjax.bsky.social · 26/03/2026

and tell them that some of their concerns about fetishization, and just flat out wrong shit didn't matter. Racism also dovetails with this and trust, that got even more folks heated. All this to say, I'm not surprised at all by how this is playing out with Bridgerton. Because I've seen it up close.

ladyjax @ladyjax.bsky.social · 26/03/2026

Eventually, I helped develop and run a slash con and was able to put more f/f on the menu at least for discussion (I ran programming so there) but we're talking it took effort. And that's with watching certain straight women fans basically look gay male fans dead in the eye

140

ladyjax @ladyjax.bsky.social · 26/03/2026

NGL, it sucked and it hurt and in many ways, I gave in and didn't bother to write certain things in those spaces because some people could be real shitty (and this is with folks were my age and older in my various fandoms.) or dismissive.

130

ladyjax @ladyjax.bsky.social · 26/03/2026

good luck with finding the fic you wanted. Het fic sure, depending on the fandom, lesfic/femslash? Whoo boy. Some fellow fans were apologetic: "Oh, there's just not enough well written parts for women" "I can't relate" and yes, the dreaded, "Oh, well, it's so familiar, I can't write it."

130

ladyjax @ladyjax.bsky.social · 26/03/2026

At some point, I asked myself, "I wonder if there's fic for x character in this show." Cue trolling the nacent internet, and then later meeting with actual real live people, some of whom became very good friends to this day. The other thing I learned: if you were a lady who liked ladies, like myself

Watching the Bridgerton drama play out feels extremely familiar to me. When I came back into organized media fandom around the time that Highlander hit the air in the 90s, I was a full adult. Zines were still a thing and mailing lists were big.

ladyjax @ladyjax.bsky.social · 26/03/2026

As someone who came through 90s media fandom as a full adult and a lesbian, let me tell you how not surprised I am.

404 Media's @josephcox.bsky.social has spent hours reporting on the DOGE depositions. Plaintiffs argued that taking the videos down is a massive First Amendment issue. Still, the judge ordered the videos be removed. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtMn...

Shout out to my LCS @capecowlcomics.bsky.social . The way that I find out about a lot of comics I otherwise would pass is either through Eitan or one of the very knowledgeable staffers who work there. They're enthusiastic about books they enjoy and will tell you why.

No, Chuck. We want ICE gone completely. And if you keep shilling this position, then maybe it's time for you to go and let others lead.

This is why I am tired of certain parties poopooing how folks get involved. I can look at the past and bitch or I can also keep hoping that they go to book club and start handing out whistles so they can respond when they see some shit.

I also called and had some sympathy for the person on the other end of the line who sounded very tired even as I made my point. I got through in less than 30 seconds. I'm barely hanging on to Netflix as it is and I've had my subscription since DVD days.

I went to the first No Kings protest in my area with a group of friends and did not sign up beforehand. Left the phone at home and masked up (because it's what I do). Promptly skipped out of the speeches the minute we got to the end point. I figure I'd played with fate just long enough.

I moved from there well over 30 years ago. But it was a good place to grow up. Sadly though it was hit by a lot of gentrification which hit everyone across the board regardless of race. I think only one friend of mine from high school was able to buy a house before prices went sky high.

ladyjax @ladyjax.bsky.social · 04/06/2025

I grew up in Montclair, NJ so no WaWa but "turn right at Lakawana Plaza then get on Orange Road and stay on it until the South End," was the equivalent for me at the time.

Depending on where you live, your life might be guided by public transit routes. I was on NJ Transit buses to go to school across town by the time I was seven. I knew my route and landmarks. When I went to high school and started walking home, it was easy to navigate because I knew the route.

In the United States, we have/had women in all kinds of regressive movements and it's absolutely important to point it out. Especially now.

I read his GQ interview, and dude has his own version of awareness about the world which I can appreciate. Also, he's kinda goofy, which I can also appreciate.

060

ladyjax @ladyjax.bsky.social · 24/03/2025

Absolutely. There's also the fact that even if we don't have a direct connection, somehow we come up with a way to make a dish and someone says, "You know, such and such used to make it just like that."

110

ladyjax @ladyjax.bsky.social · 24/03/2025

Exactly. I grew up on a lot of different types of foods for that very reason. My mom had her favorite places for Italian-style cookies and Irish soda bread, if someone at my Catholic school didn't make it already.

My mother died from pancreatic cancer the day before I graduated from college in 1988. I would have sold my soul for her to have had a shot at a cure. I hope other people get to have a chance for one.
