Still Waters Run Deep Not a ripple on the water, so the ridge gets to show up twice. Hard to beat a calm lake. #EastCoastKin #Photography #ClassicMono #Fuji #PhotographersofBlueSky #PhotographersUnited #LandscapePhotography #Dolomites #Italy #ECK
A black-and-white landscape of a still mountain lake. A pale, sunlit limestone ridge with three main peaks runs across the upper left and center of the frame, rising above dark conifer forest that covers the lower slopes down to the water's edge. The sky is nearly black and lightens slightly toward the right edge, where the forest drops to a lower treeline. The lake is flat enough to mirror the ridge almost exactly: the peaks reappear inverted below the shoreline, a little darker than the originals, with the forest reflected as a band of fine vertical texture. In the lower right, a bank of dark pebbles and small stones slopes into the water, with a few lighter, flat rocks near the bottom edge. The lower left is open, dark water.

The horizon sits close to the middle of the frame, so the image rests on near-symmetry rather than thirds, with the shoreline acting as a mirror axis. Tonal range carries the composition: bright peaks against a black sky above, a dark foreground below, and a narrow band of mid-tones in the forest between them. The heavy, textured pebble shore anchors the lower right and keeps the reflection from floating free, while the black sky isolates the ridge. The mood is quiet and severe, closer to a study of stillness and doubling than a scenic view.

Cadini di Misurina from the Tre Cime. Fog filling the valley, one cloud snagged on the tallest summit. #EastCoastKin #Photography #Fuji #PhotographersofBlueSky #PhotographersUnited #LandscapePhotography #Stunday #MountainMonday
A range of jagged limestone spires fills the middle of the frame. The tallest peak sits right of center, its summit wrapped in a thin cloud. To its left a slimmer tower rises on its own, and the ridge steps back to the far left in paler, bluer layers. A band of white-lavender fog lies in the valley below the spires. The sky grades from pale blue at the top through lavender to pink at the horizon. Warm orange light touches the upper faces of the spires and a large pale buttress at lower right, while their shadow sides stay cool violet-gray. The foreground is dark rust-brown tundra scattered with gray stones.

The image is built on warm and cool contrast inside a narrow violet-to-pink palette. Each ridge is lighter and bluer than the one in front, which gives clear depth, and the horizontal fog band sets off the vertical spires. The dark foreground anchors the lower edge and the lit buttress at right balances the tall peak. The mood is quiet and still, in the lineage of classic alpine landscape work.

Ridge Over Troubled Sky Tre Cime di Lavaredo. Clouds kept pouring over the ridge and the mountain kept vanishing and coming back. Could have watched it for hours. #EastCoastKin #Photography #ClassicMono #Fuji #PhotographersofBlueSky #PhotographersUnited #MluntainMonday
A black and white photograph made at Tre Cime di Lavaredo in the Dolomites. A grassy, rocky ridge crosses the lower third of the frame beneath a vast mass of cloud. The slope is dark and heavily textured with scattered stones, grass tufts and a thin pale path winding down the right side. On the crest left of center, a tall stone monument topped with a figure stands beside a single small evergreen. Right of center, on a lower rise, a pale obelisk with a small cross at its tip. Two tiny hiker silhouettes walk near the left monument, and a third figure is barely visible on the slope. Behind the ridge, a bright backlit column of cloud rises through the middle of the frame, parting around a dark rock face. Heavy, dark, billowing cloud fills the upper left and upper right.

The frame stacks three tonal zones: a dark, textured foreground, a luminous cloud column in the middle, and heavy shadowed cloud above. The monuments and hikers are small and sit low, so the weather reads as the subject and the figures supply scale. Bright cloud against dark rock gives strong figure-ground separation, and the cloud's diagonal edge leads the eye down to the ridge. The mood is solemn and exposed, in the tradition of mountain photography that treats weather as the main event.

Photo by Inge Morath, Andalusia 1955, titled 'Dance of the Oxendrivers'

Mid-century Black & White portrait of Spanish folk culture, the local Romani (Romany - gipsy) wagon pulled up on the side of the road, with members of the group clapping to mark tempo, encircling a man in a hat, dancing..

Spanish traditional music encompasses not only the Arabic contribution, but also leans heavily on the Romany traditions, often referred to as Duende - a form of European Blues, full of life and Joy, despite harsh living conditions, in fact precisely *because* of the daily struggle..

The track “Triste” is a bossa nova written by the great Brazilian musician and composer Antonio Carlos Jobim; Jobim wrote the song in late 1966 while staying at the Sunset Marquis Hotel in Los Angeles, as he waited for Frank Sinatra to return from a holiday in Barbados so they could begin recording their album..

Just You, Just Me (Remastered 1999) ~ Nat King Cole Trio (from: After Midnight: The Complete Session) youtu.be/yvxaYNv7fsI?... 🎶 🎹 🎺 🎷 "With love for the whole world, unfold a boundless heart: above, below, all round, unconstricted, without enmity or foe" Karaṇīya Metta Sutta verse 8 (Snp 1.8)
this picture dates back to early 20th Century, showing a young child holding a cat close - she is beaming with unfettered delight, as only a young child can.

In the background her mother (presumably) is peering around the house door, watching the scene being captured by the (unknown) photographer.

The scene plays out in a rather desolate looking, cobbled yard, with a bicycle leaning precariously against a wall, and the utilitarian Coal-store just within reach of the door..

Despite these grim surroundings, the image is brimming with Joy; reminding us that true joy is unconditional, it is a pure state of Being, achievable if or when we are able to let go of unrealistic expectations or unhelpful attachments..

The greatest generosity is non-attachment' ~ Atisa

Legendary Japanese photographer Masahisa Fukase gently helping his beloved cat, Sasuke, drink water from a temizuya (water purification pavilion) at a Japanese shrine.
Crouched beside a massive, dark stone water basin (chōzubachi), the subject holds a long-handled ladle (hishaku) low to the ground so a small, spotted cat can drink. One hand rests with tender protection across the feline’s back as it stretches forward to lap water from the metal bowl. Above the carved stone, bamboo racks support an array of resting ladles, while polished river pebbles glisten in the drainage trough below. Captured in soft, monochromatic silver tones, the photograph evokes a deeply tender sensory atmosphere: the cool, steady drip of spring water splashing against wet river stones, the faint clink of a metal ladle against stone, the rhythmic sound of lapping water, and the quiet, reverent stillness of a sanctuary courtyard sheltered from the rushing world. This intimate moment captures legendary photographer Masahisa Fukase (1934–2012) and his iconic feline companion, Sasuke, whose playful and enigmatic presence became the central subject of Fukase’s celebrated photobooks in the late 1970s. In Shinto tradition, the temizuya (or chōzuya) serves as a sacred pavilion where worshipers perform ritual purification (misogi) by rinsing their hands and mouth before entering the shrine precinct. Fukase’s gentle extension of this purification ritual to sustain a small kitten bridges the solemnity of ancestral spiritual practice with the tender, unvarnished intimacy of daily life.

Photo by Robert Doisneau, 1949 - beautiful photo of a young child sitting in a large metal tub (possibly a laundry tub) in a garden, with a watering-can suspended from a tree on one side, and a short length of rope attached to the watering-can, so it can be tilted in order to release the water.
The child has her hands raised, as the (presumably) cold water shower washes over her; her face a mix of shock and delight.

It seems that sometimes that which is good for us, can be a little shocking or uncomfortable at first - like when we first attempt to get into an outdoor pool, or the sea - but once we have let go of the illusion of comfort, and fully immerse ourselves, there is a welcome release of tension & we can start to find genuine pleasure..

contentment the greatest wealth" from Dhammapada 204
