For me, the start of any new #editing project is asking questions ... and now twice in the past two days, I've been told that these questions can be helpful in and of themselves. Always good to be given a new perspective on the work I do!

So Think, Write, Edit, Romance has a lot about prose and a whole section on self-editing. In a moment of wild surmise, I asked the literal Final Boss copyeditor if he'd take a look at it. (When I said I was taking a punt on blurbs...) And he did, and this is some of what @bcdreyer.social said.
Flyer for Think Write Edit Romance. Quote: “...she offers up here the sort of expert advice on the nuts and bolts of prose, from punctuation to grammar, that makes my copyeditorial heart sing. And if that weren't enough, she does it all engagingly and wittily. I can't imagine a writer, of romance or of anything else, who won't find much that's invaluable in these pages.” --—Benjamin Dreyer, New York Times bestselling author of Dreyer's English and former Random House copy chief. Here's July's lino print, "Ammonite", inspired by ancient fossils and the stone they're found in. I experimented with two colors to create a more varied striped pattern that rocks sometimes have. Process: www.patreon.com/Kamakru/post...
A 5x7 inch lino block print of an ammonite shell with a stylized dragon underneath. Cracks run through the illustration as if it were all carved or encased in stone. Black and sienna ink on light gray paper. Under it says the title "Ammonite" and Katie Croonenberghs where it will be signed once dry, text in lower right reads kamakru.com

Tip for new authors: After the manuscript is drafted, your next step is not a line/copy editor or a proofreader. It's not even a developmental editor. Find a critique partner (or multiple). Find beta readers. Find fellow authors willing to swap chapters.
