I read a very good post the other day about how nobody reads John Irving or John Cheever anymore. And if she wasn't a posting machine, Joyce Carol Oates might share the same fate.

I've read some really rough stuff in some of the classes I've been in over the years, the kind of work where I have to hold back all my critical faculties/inner Harlan Ellison...but even then, I'd read things that are barely legible day in and day out over anything a robot "wrote."

Everytime I see an announcement for a new Hellboy story, the interview always goes like: "I thought I was done, but then I saw this artist I liked and asked them to do something with this fragment of an idea I had"

It's always been the way. DC was, and still is, adventurous (if that's the right term to use for mainstream comics) in a way that Marvel never has been.

It was either: that Milgrom issue of the Hulk where Vision is stuck in him or Red Cactus Swamp Thing. I also got a full run of Ambush Bug a little later, which might have been the first ones I picked up with any real intention.

Will this be the Halloween season when I finally watch one (or both) of those Stellan Skarsgard Exorcist prequels…or dare I say it, the Boorman sequel? Stay tuned.

I also just feel like no show that has this dogshit episode can be number 1. (Kinda feel like splitting off True Detective Season 1 into its own thing is cheating?)

Why Don't You Have a Seat? PRIMETIME explores "how we got here" - ScreenRex

A tense, grimy thriller anchored by Robert Pattinson in arguably one of his greatest performances. This one will haunt you.

Delighted to see M. John Harrison make the Booker shortlist. While I kinda feel like Marlon James will likely take the prize, it's exciting enough to see Harrison crack into the upper echelon with such a weird and difficult little book, in his eighties, no less.

I enjoyed this last episode a little more. The focus was helpful. But there's a sloppiness I'm still struggling with. I don't buy John's hatred of Hal. I don't buy that Hal would get thrown in prison given circumstances. And why the heck is it snowing one day, and bright ass summer the next?

full stop, she needs to unseat Schumer and build up her electability bonafides. I mean, it's cool she's a meme machine and all, but she's also the only Dem currently polling at a loss against Vance. Do with that what you will.

There's something to be said about how in the US CS Lewis is seen as a writer of Christian apologetics above all else & as a result Narnia is *only* seen as allegory, while in Britain he's seen as an author of beloved children's books, & we find the whole "the lion is Jesus" stuff a bit embarrassing

Resident Evil is Zach Cregger’s weakest movie, and yet still a much better film than one could reasonably expect to come from this franchise. Also extra-credit for being the perfect movie length.
