*watches Exorcist: Martyrs trailer* Exorcist 3 bros, we are so very back!

Since the Decatur library is gonna be closed tomorrow due to weather, that also means the sale has to be cancelled. Just a heads up for the local folks. 😞

I should say, reading that first Von Bek book got me to then read an entire book about the Thirty Years War. There’s degrees to all of these things.

Investing in my reading future by getting all three James Elkins novels. This will only connect with like…maybe five people on here, none of whom are in my immediate sphere as far as I can tell, but by god I hope they see it.

It’s an interesting and unusual choice, particularly as a Democrat, to decide to completely obliterate your opponent in a debate when you could’ve played it safe.

A little funny thing in that the “high schoolers” in Carrie all do the CW thing of appearing about 5 years too old, while in Derry they all look like Middle Schoolers.

I was tempted, but knowing that Mike probably just scribbled something on a napkin for someone else to do all the work on chills that for me a little.

I know Castle Rock was steeped in that, but even when we tried to revisit that last year, it still felt like a list of Easter Eggs in search of a story.

I haven't watched the new Carrie show yet, but we did put on the first episode of Welcome to Derry last night, which I was warmer to than when it debuted. Based on what I hear, it's cool that there are two high-profile shows that are embracing the King universe thing.

It really doesn't feel like Halloween season yet. It's probably the weather, but I finished putting up the decorations at least. And Hannah got some purple and orange fairy lights for inside, so hopefully the vibe will waft over me like a black veil these next couple of days.

Always remember feeling like Lenny Lane never got his due and should have been more attached to Jericho longterm, but that might just be faulty memory talking.

110

Kyle Pinion @kylepinion.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

Yeah Hannah really hated the big revelation. Found it out of character. I have other problems with the show as a whole, but the finale was mostly okay I thought.

000

Kyle Pinion @kylepinion.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

It’s never a good sign when I have to google stuff like “why did Hal go to prison?” “why is everybody mad at him?” It feels a bit like when they reordered the episodes it didn’t help with the clarity of things either.

010

Kyle Pinion @kylepinion.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

Yep. And maybe it’s a fault of our disinterest at times, but neither Hannah or I understood major plot points at times and it feels like the show just skirted over the work to get there?

“It’s meant to be shitty. I guess you’re just not up for provocative cinema” is not the selling point some film bros think it is.

I’m reminded a bit of the Dragon Con comics track (from my days working it) where there was almost no effort made to attract top talent and it was just the same local and indie people every year because “they put in applications”

It’s not that I don’t think the Decatur Book Festival is bad. Quite the opposite, I love the idea of it…it’s just that it’s overrun now with Self-Published authors to the exclusion of almost everything else.

I read a very good post the other day about how nobody reads John Irving or John Cheever anymore. And if she wasn't a posting machine, Joyce Carol Oates might share the same fate.

I've read some really rough stuff in some of the classes I've been in over the years, the kind of work where I have to hold back all my critical faculties/inner Harlan Ellison...but even then, I'd read things that are barely legible day in and day out over anything a robot "wrote."
