Just in case you still use any Basecamp products, DHH is crashing out about his AI product gently pointing out that it’s bad for him to have extermination fantasies about the Roma people.
DHH tweet saying “This is why we need competition and open weights in Al. Imagine a world where only Anthropic sat as the moral arbiter of acceptable speech. Fucking ridiculous. (Grok of course did it no problem, same too with Kimi K).” when presented with his blog post using a slur about the Roma people.

wait is this what tech people sound like to people who aren't in tech
An excerpt from an AWS FAQ. The answers are not visible. The questions are:

Q: Can I use Apache TinkerPop Gremlin and RDF/SPARQL on the same Neptune instance?

Q: How can I migrate from an existing Apache TinkerPop Gremlin application to Amazon Neptune?

Q: Do I need to change client drivers to use Amazon Neptune's Gremlin Server?

Q: How can I migrate from a triple store with a SPARQL endpoint to Amazon Neptune?

Look I have zero excuses for this, but the idea popped into my head and now it's in your head, sorry
A six panel comic. In panel 1, a yellow warbler says "Hey, so I'm going to go out on a limb here". For the next four panels, it hops down along a branch. In the last panel, at the end of the branch, it sings a little song. I'm sorry.

I joked with my friends that if serverless means managed servers, then I'm a catless cat person. I enjoy petting cats fully managed by my friends, with zero operational overhead. I get observability through the pictures they send. I buy gifts and treats when I visit—so it's just usage-based billing.

Instead of "Groups A and B just never talk to each other", I'm working on saying "what happens if groups A and B don't talk to each other?" Now I'm not speaking in absolutes, I'm not overgeneralizing, I'm rather talking about a hypothetical and *specific* instance, and discussing that Much better!

The simple answer would be a number of time jump records associated with the person, and you introduce a new calculated field that adds the inverse of the sum of all related jumps to their "true" age I guess. You'd use that then for standard reporting

In the world of Star Trek you'd already account for the lifespan of different species - but having a shop run almost exclusively by impossibly old crew would raise some eyebrows and be a nuisance surely?

Fudging a realistic future birth date to make the age look right loses data. And just calculating age based on (now - birth_date) would skew a whole bunch of reporting.

Watching Star Trek Discovery and it raises an important question - how do you design a staff database that accounts for the fact that someone has traveled in time without them showing as 900 years old in normal use? My boyfriend for some reason was not very interested in this conversation.
