Found a bald-faced hornets nest in our big tree this weekend. It is *not* a thousand solar telescopes but the internet says it’s beneficial nonetheless.

Looking down a long and shady sidewalk with tall trees and high branches. I’d you look closely, there is a round grey lump of something in the closest tree, nearly above your head.

A closeup reveals that the ball is a hornet’s nest, with papery layers making a complex swirl of subtle lines and shades. Ot is shaped a little like a fat tornado with a wide top tapered downward to a narrower bottom.

Screw it. It is Spring Break here at the U and I've finally done something I have always wanted to do: count all the owls at Walter Library. For the first time since the library was renovated in 2002, here is a complete count of all the owls carved, chiseled, and sculpted into the library: 1,167!
