Selling off Canada’s public infrastructure won't lower costs or build a fairer future for working families—it just guarantees higher corporate profits. You don’t build a stronger country by selling it off. My latest op-ed in @TheHillTimes www.hilltimes.com/2026/10/07/y... #cdnpoli #VancouverEast

The choice is not between doing nothing and privatizing everything. It is between building an economy that serves people, and building one that serves investors.

They just don’t want to share power with anyone. Thus we have a democratic process (elections) that get translated into a pseudo democratic result where it matters (in parliament)

This is a good day to ponder what an amazing deal B.C. residents have enjoyed thanks to public auto insurance. Avg nominal premiums are no higher than 9 years ago when J.Horgan was elected Premier, vs 45% avg increase in Canada and 119% in next-door Alberta. Data from StatsCan. #bcpoli

Today, far-right trillionaire Elon Musk said that Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Quebec should separate from Canada. Powerful foreign interests want our country broken up, and vulnerabilities in Alberta’s referendum give them that chance. Why aren't the Liberals taking this threat seriously?

It’s pretty wild that book bans are still a thing. Do these ban advocates actually believe they can hide information like it was still the dark ages? Something tells me these nanny statists the the same ones crying for ‘freedom’ from taxes and government

I'd like to see at least an announcement of a program to move off American tech. Instead I can't escape the feeling they are sucking up to Microsoft and company in hopes of some mythical AI payoff. FYI no such payoff is coming.

Crazy and Lazy. Of course the fed gov is still signing contracts with Microsoft for things like Office 365, something perfectly replaceable with FOSS. Carney engages in sovereignty theatre while the gov cranks along on American tech. When these basic things change then we can take him seriously.

It doesn't require any 4D chess to understand that 1) In Quebec people understand that a vote for the PQ is not the same as a vote for separation 2)The PQ has a weak hand here, a minority gov and only 28% of the vote, plus they now face two 'federalist' party's. PSPP will need the 4D chess moves.

This is the Achilles' heel of the Major Projects agenda. How can Canadians buy into a policy program they have no say on, have little clarity on how the things to be built will help them afford essentials today, and leave unions & civil society off the table while our infrastructure is on the menu?

We should have had a TGV system in the 90s. It's beyond absurd we are still debating this. Now whether we can trust the gov to get the project right is a legitimate issue, but not an insurmountable one. High speed rail has become like electoral reform, needed, promised, but never delivered.

Taking as verbatim 'truth' the musings of tech industry CEOs is the laziest form of journalism. Back in COVID there was this breathless coverage about how tech/AI could be used to track infections via phones. My thinking was 'Never going to happen', I was right, all that coverage was wrong.

Keith Walsh @ktwalsh.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
On the software side the gov is hundreds of millions on Office 365 etc. This absolutely could be replaced with FOSS solutions. It isn't some theoretical idea yet we can't even get the gov off of X/twitter so yeah. It requires will and effort, that seems to be the issue.

The vote was so fragmented it was ‘almost’ like a PR system. Also it’s telling how the PQ couldn’t convince people they are up for the job even after the CAQ years. The CAQ however got the result they earned.

For decades the US disguised industrial policy as military spending, all the while decrying industrial policy as anti-free market. Why? B/C they knew full well you can't count on the 'free' market to actually deliver what you want/need.

That's what happens when a government prioritizes it's own internal politics (i.e. the ego projects of its most bellicose members) over actually governing. Brexit being a nice example of this internal stupidity.
