I have never seen coverage of a live trial, one involving allegations of multiple sex attacks on multiple women, framed in a more distasteful way. It's not 'Fame under fire' it's a rape trial. And it involves actual women. And this from the *checks notes* BBC
BBC screengrab from within their Russell Brand trial coverage. Image of Brand in 70s-style aviator glasses, with earpods in, blank expression. Long dark wavy hair, black and grey beard, dark unbuttoned shirt. All on a fire red/orange and black background
BBC logo top and centre, underneath a subdeck reading: Fame Under Fire. Then the headline 'Russell Brand On Trial'.
The words 'fire'and 'trial' are coloured to look like they are glowing orange at the bottom

2026: Labour MP Jonathan Hinder says 'nobody thinks that was going to happen,' that Brexit would mean, instead of migrants from the EU, we'd get migrants from outside the EU 2016: Labour's Heidi Alexander explained exactly that; one of many politicians and commentators to do so

The whole discourse about Glasgow city centre being unsafe in 2026 genuinely feels like a psyop at this point because it is so completely at odds with observable reality.

Well said. How many of Tommy Robinson’s Sport’s Direct paramilitary division go and help or worship at the churches they claim they want to protect. It’s much easier to don a balaclava and shout at the RNLI. #HopeNotHate

I simply don't think people should be able to throw around the word "inquiry" to strengthen what is essentially just a media campaign

Reader, not a writer, but can't resist the opportunity. A few well chosen quotes really work. Too many (especially multiple pages inside the front cover) feel like a hard sell and degrades trust. One contemporary writer provides so many blurbs that if I see one by him, might put the book back down.

The dominance of the black/white frame for talking about racial identity makes Europe confusing for a lot of people. This is why the British far right are banging on about ethnicity.

Speaking of voting, if you're a member and you'd like to keep the National Trust's Council free from interference from Britain (and the US's) richest financiers, don't forget to vote before the end of the month. Quick-vote takes moments and avoids the Restore Trust slate of candidates.

There are a lot of fairly small public courses where I used to live, but you have limited access to walk round them because, y'know, flying golf balls. During COVID they were suddenly these totally open green spaces. I imagine some of that happens when a course closes.

The correct response to this would be to make all the evidence used to draw the conclusion public, then challenge Farage to respond, otherwise people will just pick their opinions on the matter based purely on who they trust.

This would be economically illiterate & environmentally disastrous - and makes us less secure: undermining efforts to reduce energy bills by reducing dependence on gas, increasing vulnerability to global dictators, driving climate emissions & knee capping a market that’s just beginning to take off

It is illegal. The police want to prosecute. X are refusing to give the user data to the police. That is their routine practice for racist hate crimes. (They cooperate on child sexual abuse and some forms of terrorism; they impede the policing of racist/ misogynistic hate crimes on their platform)

The 80s adaptation of The Box of Delights seemed huge to me (a child) at the time, but it was only three hours. I saw the whole thing in the cinema a few years ago, it was considerably stranger than I remembered!

I saw a thing a while back about how raw milk farms in California are creating a great reservoir for bird flu to mutate to spread to people. The farmer interviewed said he knew his milk was infected, but 'no one's got really sick, so it's ok!' So far! 😵‍💫

I think ethnic identity happens 'at home' and national identity is about public life. Feel the same way about religion. If in conflict, the requirements of the nation win. Want to follow a religion that outlaws abortion? Have at it. Want to impose that on everyone else in the nation? Nope.

I have a (white) friend who has lived in Scotland since around age of 5, has a very strong English accent because of parents and despite being schooled in Aberdeenshire and Dundee, and voluably names herself as Scottish. Freaks some other Scottish people out 😁

ktk @ktk66.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
If you ask white Scottish or Irish people if they have the same ethnicity as white English people, I think a lot would say no! It's a very porous concept. But arguing about content of ethnicity is moving to their turf. The point is, people of different ethnicities can live in the same nationstate.

ktk @ktk66.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
Somewhere thinks there's a difference, or why is this being counted. I can't remember if 'white English' is typically an option (cause it's not my option), would be interesting if it's excluded.

So I understand the context of the question and I'm not remotely justifying how ethnicity is being used in this context. But. Ethnic difference doesn't require racial difference and a lot of HR-type questionnaires these days ask people to choose 'white Scottish', 'white Irish' etc. So someone...
