I'd go further. Let Swedish Migration Agency process applications with LLMs. Maybe then they'd have no excuse to simply not process the applications at all.

I mean, this is the kind of stuff I would like an LLM to do. The visa applications are hedged in absurd, kafkaesque amount of beaurocracy. It is unnecessary text generation - perfect task for an LLM!

From the photos, one fascinating thing: Men vs women across age groups in villages. Unlike in the city, even among elderly the sex ratio was close to 1:1. Never seen that. I wonder, if it is still that way in some rular areas. BTW: Apart from the data, the wording of the atlas is fascinating 🤩

What determines whether picocyanobacteria remain in surface waters or sink? 🦠🌊 A new DEEP-led study shows that aggregation and colony formation are key factors in their export to deeper waters in the Baltic Sea, shedding new light on marine carbon cycling. 🔗 www.su.se/english/divi...

5/6 We also contribute to the debate about higher marine bacterial alpha diversity in winter. We show that deepwater-only taxonomic units in summer can be detected in surface water in winter, and that their influx explains most of the differences in alpha diversity.

4/6 Local adaptation among protists but not bacteria (the rareness of the latter being supported by previous evidence) would also explain the general differences in the salinity-driven diversity patterns.

2/6 We show that salinity has a stronger effect on bacterial than protist community composition, but the opposite is true for alpha diversity. Still, regardless of how abundant they were, protists generally had wider salinity niches.

Hopefully it will inform the future use (or restrain from it) of metabarcoding-based machine learning in the Baltic region and beyond. We believe it can serve as a guideline of what is achievable with the approach, with what advantages and drawbacks, and what remains a challenge.
