Nature Walk

Ticks microwave their blood meal
and eat dinner alone while other beasts
run circles around heat-stroked starlings.
You know, God flooded the earth
for good reason. He, too, was sick
of the dusk-rotten summer. Earth
has hit the hottest temperatures on record
for I don’t know how many days now.
I guess we all hold ceremony
in our own desperate ways.
I read a poem to the dried-up riverbed
and visit all the places I used to keep cool
in your shadow. It’s the Year of the Rabbit,
year of admitting our collective calamities.
Look: my skin sweats with longing
and yet the bugs want nothing to do with me.
If they only knew how much I needed
their tradition of touch, to swell for weeks
in the aftermath of gnawing voracity.

It's been a rough week. I found out my sweet girl has terminal cancer. She has been my constant companion through years of instability. I'm heartbroken but focusing on feeding her as much cheese as she wants.

Basically the con of being a Borrower (4" tall person with normal intelligence but proportionally smaller strength) is the cats eating you. The pro is when you steal pills you can get seriously fucked up for a long time.

Finally have a really solid job prospect, something meaningful that I'd be good at, full time, living wage, staff seems really great, casual attire. And it's second shift. No more theatre work. Only two evenings a week for social contact. Would have to drop out of my D&D group.
