As we noted a few days ago, Trump appears to be defying court orders. He threatened to withhold food stamp benefits for roughly 42 million Americans until the government shutdown ends, even though a federal court has ordered his administration to continue the aid payments through the month.

Elon Musk has officially left the White House on May 30th, closing a chaotic chapter for the government.
However, his tenure as the leader of DOGE has set him up to continue to reap the rewards from his efforts for the foreseeable future.

A TERM MARKED BY FAILURE
Elon Musk marketed DOGE as a means to
"reduce" waste and fraud. Whilst initially promising $2 trillion in savings, his target fell to a relatively paltry $150 billion. He grew increasingly frustrated by resistance to his goals over the past few months; he even clashed with fellow cabinet members.
At the same time, his $25 million bid to sway the Wisconsin Supreme Court election failed spectacularly.
Musk faced significant public and political blowback for his "work" at DOGE, with Tesla sales and stock plummeting. While he was already seen as a cringe, wannabe Tony Stark before DOGE, his reputation has been permanently damaged by his tenure. Even Grok hates him.
Just days before his departure, he criticized Trump's "big beautiful bill" for increasing government spending and undermining the work of DOGE.

BITTERSWEET SCHEUDENFRAUDE
It's good to celebrate this win. However, we can't overlook the damage he and DOGE have done:
• He's cut 12% of the federal workforce (260,000 employees).
• DOGE helped dismantle USAID.
• DOGE employees have access to personal information at the US Treasury, Dept of Education, and Office of Personnel Management.
• Court orders blocking access to personal information often came weeks later, meaning that data is already in their hands.
• They cut hundreds of grants and federal funding, including to research studies and worldwide aid.
• And so much more.
Even though Musk is out, DOGE is still here, and it will continue to severely jeopardize federal funding, jobs, and the security of our personal data so long as it is allowed to run rampant.

MUSK LEFT WITH LINED POCKETS
While it's easy to speculate about why Musk left, the simple fact is that he was a special employee of the government. Anyone with this status can't work more than 130 days without being confirmed by the Senate and that was May 30th for Musk.
In this short amount of time, Musk used DOGE as a means to not only protect his businesses, but help them prosper. SpaceX, Neuralink, Starlink, X, and Tesla all have some stake in either government contracts or avoiding regulation. Or both.
A new report from Public Citizen finds that Musk had "direct business interest in over 70 percent of the agencies and departments targeted by DOGE."
He directed DOGE to gut, access data to, or rearrange numerous agencies to the benefit of his companies.
