@kodi I'm told I'll seem more like a real person if I put something here And that will make it less likely that I'll get blocked But then I think about how strong the desire not to be perceived is And I wonder why I'd want to avoid being blocked

It's like she's just wading into the pit throwing punches and most of the time it's cool because there's a bunch of Nazis at this show but every once in a while she just flattens someone who wasn't even in the pit to begin with and everyone's like "oh no jco" but it's too late.

And food pantries can't offer this reminder because it makes them seem greedy, and makes the "I only ever donate food because if I donate money it just goes to Scrooge McDuck" contingent decide they shouldn't donate food either.

Making the theme even worse, there are plenty of songs where a male personifies unearned wealth and privilege, but they're sung in first person and it's presented as a positive attribute, or at worst a negative attribute of a likable person.

I think another problem with the first image is that there's clearly one TV that's "the teevee" and all the others are accessories.

Each little subdivision around here has about 4-6 crows that hang there, and sometimes they all get together to harass a hawk. But there's one tiny little subdivision with, like, 30 houses that's grackletown for some reason, and the crows always respect that.

but even then they won't be able to get to profitable because the total dollar demand available to capture just isn't enough.

The only good outcome for any of these companies I can imagine is that as the capital inflow runs out, one company is able to pick up the demand as the others fail and raise prices once they have a monopoly...

Chris @kodiak.app · 29/09/2026
Yeah, and the demand right now is buoyed by the fact that it's available cheaper and faster than it should be; I think most companies would respond to an across the board price increase by slightly reducing their net total spend, drastically reducing their usage...

I had one audiobook recently that bounced between three different time periods... but I had no problem following it because each period had a different narrator. And then a different audiobook skipped forward a few hours without a pause between sentences and left me totally disoriented.

I assume that dogging is like raw-dogging only you could potentially be wearing a condom. Fly-tipping I can't even speculate. I just can't imagine why a person would want to put those words together.

Have you ever heard of a point? It's a mathematical concept, a deceptively simple "zero-dimensional location" that will melt your brain. What is the area of a point? It's zero! And yet with an infinite number of points, you can make a shape that has an area!

and we all just need to stay out of their relationship. And everyone I know was like, "I actually assumed it WAS an accident until she posted that, but I guess one of them was shooting at the other, huh?"

Chris @kodiak.app · 28/09/2026
Had something like this happen to someone I know, who lost three fingers after getting shot; I'm not really sure what actually happened, all I know is that she posted a few angry paragraphs on Facebook about how it was definitely just an accident and she loves her boyfriend very much...

Jake Heke in Once Were Warriors. He doesn't believe he's evil, and he is personally suffering in ways that genuinely suck - but since the root cause isn't his fault, he decides that nothing can possibly be his fault. What I really appreciate is the way it shows that as long as what you need ...

This is so very much "we'll sell our product at a loss but we'll make it up on volume" and I don't think you can IPO your way out of that.

instead of 'young people need to work' it should be 'society needs to have capacity for workers'. increasingly, work about servicing automation and convenience, and this is never going to be good for youth employment. We cant have all our 16 year olds on scooters delivering mcdonalds ffs

I watched it recently because someone mentioned how much they hated it, and it was great! I read the poem, too, and it's kind of amazing how much they were able to build on it.

Alternately, if you can even describe a room as having a smartest person, that room is probably way too narrowly focused to accomplish anything major instead of containing an appropriate diversity of specialties and viewpoints.

Yeah, one of the vilest parts of our culture of dunks is that sometimes you find an issue like this where there are abundant dunkable takes on all sides and suddenly everyone turns into a comedian who is not that funny and surprisingly mean-spirited.

I didn't even know there was tiktok discourse - I thought everyone was just responding to the bsky post I saw quoted, which literally did say "if you bring a beverage of any kind to an interview, that's disqualifying."

In one of my accounting classes, we spent one class talking about Enron and MCI/WorldCom. 50 minutes explaining the complicated shell game and confirm of interest of Enron, and then it was WorldCom time: "they wrote down the numbers in the wrong column and made up a fancy name for it."

This model has 862 pieces, and although they came in a dozen bags, those bags were in only 3 batches. That moment when you click the last loose piece onto your model loses some of its joy when the next thing you do is dump 300 pieces on the table.

And have parts that are well within tolerance. But a model that has one flimsy connection is a MUCH worse experience than a model with zero flimsy connections. The other thing LEGO does a much better job of is dividing the bags into batches. I did a LEGO model today with 221 pieces - 4 batches.

I have bought a few off-brand LEGO-style sets, and I find them fascinating. All the ones I've tried so far are REALLY good - and what's interesting to me is how inadequate that can be. Easily 98% of all the connections have clear instructions and are well-engineered...

Trader Joe's has sliced apple cinnamon sourdough bread right now and I dearly wish I were the sort of person who likes cheese on apple pie because I'll bet that would make an amazing grilled cheese if I were.
