@kodi I'm told I'll seem more like a real person if I put something here And that will make it less likely that I'll get blocked But then I think about how strong the desire not to be perceived is And I wonder why I'd want to avoid being blocked

Noises Off. There are some lines that I heard for the first time when I watched the movie recently and was finally able to rewind after I stopped laughing. I laugh so hard every single time I watch it.

It's weird how they made ten furious fast movies but only ever came up with one cool design for a car. (The LEGO set has some issues! The stickers aren't very well color matched to the bricks, and the whole cabin should be one or two pegs further back relative to the tires. Still cool, though.)

I have bought a few off-brand LEGO-style sets, and I find them fascinating. All the ones I've tried so far are REALLY good - and what's interesting to me is how inadequate that can be. Easily 98% of all the connections have clear instructions and are well-engineered...

Kangaroo. It didn't age as well as some other games from the era, to the point where it's no longer even my favorite game *from 1982* but at the time I was obsessed, to the point that I even started writing a text adventure based on the game in BASIC.
A screenshot from the arcade video game Kangaroo. An adult kangaroo wearing boxing gloves is at the bottom of the screen, ready to climb ladders to the top to rescue the blindfolded, kidnapped baby kangaroo. The monkeys climbing down the trees are going to try to prevent this. Player 1 has 0 points and two lives, and Player 2 also has 0 points.

No, I don't think I will.
There's a picture, and this is the alt text:
A stile in the middle of a field, surrounded by no fence of hedge, which, when you climb it, takes you to a nicer parallel dimension, containing no algorithms.
The picture is part of a post by ‪Tom Cox‬ :
I am often asked “What, if push came to shove, is your favourite stile you have ever climbed over on a walk in the countryside?” and it’s always an easy question to answer, since there can only ever be one winner.

Who's your favorite movie or TV character that shares your first name? It turns out that my name is actually MUCH rarer in TV/Movies than I'd think! I think it's because as a name, it actually doesn't sound very good. Also I refuse to go with anyone who doesn't SAY their name is "Chris."
Chris Parker from Adventures in Babysitting, portrayed by Elizabeth Shue. Her name is credited as Christina, but she's "Chris" throughout the film. Heck yeah.

b) I hate horror movies

On Safari, copy to clipboard seems to always fail, but download works. I somehow ended up in a state where the letter spacing was too wide on Safari, and I think that's the wrong font. And then I hit reload and got a weird 3D effect. Reloading again fixed it.

If I adjust the font and/or height settings on one title card, then change to another title card, it resets the visual settings but doesn't reset the UI to reflect that. It would be nice to be able to force uncapital letters at the beginning of words, or use a title case rule.

I had this post on my mind today as I was listening to the audiobook of How Black Music Took Over the World, and this passage was a great summary of my thoughts. I may not be able to quiet the part of me that picks apart and analyzes the art I experience, but all I can do is learn to keep...
Listening to a masterful piece of music is sort of a microcosm of an apprenticeship. You’re drawn to concentrate on that particular piece of music for the same reason you’re drawn to learn from a master of an art. You’re drawn because of their superlative nature. As you invest time, the initial dazzle of their artistry wears off. Rather than experiencing that as a loss, however, you can seize it as an opportunity to discover their deeper layers. New listening, new understanding reveals itself. Your mental map starts to change. The novice recedes and the scientist starts to reveal himself. Becoming a masterful listener is an indispensable part of the process of becoming a great musician. Listening is what reveals the science of music. Similarly, invested listeners, fans of great music become adepts of musical science themselves.

software that is identical in function to existing open source projects, and that, some would argue, are built from scratch and are therefore original work that can bypass existing copyright licenses. Others would say that software produced by large language models is inherently derivative, because like any LLM output, it is trained on the collective output of humans scraped from the internet, including specific open source projects.

If you insulate the cubes well enough that they are only freezing from one direction, they can come out crystal clear. You do end up "making more ice than you need" but only because you need that reservoir of water to still be there when your cubes finish freezing.
