I mean, maybe our culture could stop acting as if men raping women was like bad weather, what can you do but prepare, it's just a fact of life. This makes me want to set people on fire.

20 years ago, I read about the supposed microexpression recognition FACS and I took it at face value 🥁. I got very enthusiastic about it. My friend stopped me in my tracks by suggesting to me that there are reasons why people are able to lie to each other and that seeing every lie wouldn't be fun.

“how do we win back trump voters in 2026” we don’t. we create an environment where admitting to voting for trump is so socially embarrassing as to render them completely inert. you don’t “win back” trump voters. you demoralize them into staying home. you make it a dunce cap

"This book is dedicated to my parents, Ayn Rand and God." - pretty much the most famous example. But, you know, as much as I have strong preferences for this stuff -- and I do -- the bottom line is always what the house style guide requires. 🤷 Whatya gonna do?

You can fuck right off, you pestilent, fat, bloated, piece of ugly bling in a bad suit.
The decision "severely jeopardizes the lives and welfare of the people who work, and will be working, at the White House — including all future Presidents of the United States, and their families, as well as the lives of all those visiting, such as Heads of State and other Dignitaries, and all Americans who wish to visit the historic, beautiful Executive Mansion," Trump wrote.

It was a while after *that* when we built better telescopes and then discovered that there are even *more* things out there, *each* themselves made of more stars than *all* those we can see with those telescopes. Just in case anyone says that if it was always this big, it couldn't have been missed.

You know, it occurs to me the problem might be that people see — because apparently, sadly, Wall Street does — markets as speculation and by implication, gambling, so they ask: why bet on failure? But start with the kind of reasoning for futures trading, and it looks very different.

This is the 82-year-old state senator the FBI just raided because she successfully redistricted Virginia to match racist Republican redistricting efforts. They targeted her because she's ruthless and effective. They don't want anyone else to play within their new rules.
I have the utmost respect for Senator Kaine and Senator Warner but we do not need "coaching" on dedistricting coming from a cuck chair in the corner. How about you all stay focused on the fascist in the White House and let us handle redistricting Virginia. 10-1.Replying to Ted Cruz on redistricting: You all started it and we fucking finished it.

A TRANSLATION OF "NIGHT MOVES" (1976), BOB SEGER

by Keith M Ellis

'Wasn't it great in 1962 to be young and fucking? Me and that girl I didn't much like, the one with the great tits. Fucking in my car, the backroom, wherever. We'd fuck in the alley! Mosty we fucked in the woods. And in my car, a 1960 Ford. Fucking at night in the summer. Those were the days.'

* * *

ADDENDUM: THE SOURCE MATERIAL

I was a little too tall; could've used a few pounds

Tight pants points, hardly renowned.*

She was a black-haired beauty with big, dark eyes.

It's just very good. I didn't pay much attention at the time. It was much, much later when I really listened to any of their music. Being a musician, and having watched Beato interview (individually) most of the people who made that record, I'm now pretty fascinated with it.

I have fond memories of watching WTCG-TV Super-Station on cable. Many of us in some more rural areas had cable television in the 70s and 80s. I remember the whole sequence from WTCG to CNN. What I liked was to watch the Braves late at night. I'm not even a big baseball fan.

Ha! I Listened to Gaucho this morning. I still prefer Aja much more. I saw Charlie Puth interviewed by Rick Beato. Puth is adorable. A couple of times they talk about SD and he'll play a bit and then kinda have little squee frisson in delight. He does that a lot. And, yeah, some stuff is tasty.

🙋🏽‍♂️ Is it that easy? I've been anxiously dithering for a couple years, ever since my elderly cat died. Petfinder seems almost useless to me. And I'm a bit anxious about the process? I've been thinking lately that some of us who really need a pet companion are not well-equipped to find one. But: go!

This is looking to be, if built, the most hated public building in the USA. It will be a symbol and a rallying cry. I don't think the Trump regime will stand. But Trump and many others are so incriminated, and losing popularity so quickly, that they will metaphorically as well as literally dig-in.

That is very true in spirit about both him and Trump. Strictly speaking, POTUS or the world's wealthiest person can't really be described as 'losers'. But they are! These are two men who, deep down, believe they're losers and every are desperately trying to prove they are not. It's a weird time.

'Birdbrain' is outdated! They've had a *long* time to select for intelligence and they are amazingly efficient with their tiny brains. Mammalian brains are pretty big, wet, and heavy. And it's not just that: flight enforces strict constraints on many other traits. Birds are *differently* very smart.

None of the Iran War's stated strategic objectives have been achieved. Highly repressive regime still in Tehran, nuclear program still intact, missiles & drones still launching. And US now suddenly pausing effort to re-open Hormuz-- a problem that did not exist before the war. It's mind-boggling.

The "blood libel" is a specific bit of propaganda, with certain details, and you don't stumble on those by accident. I mean — I'm not Jewish and all of what I knew about the history of antisemitism when I was young was maybe from Fiddler on the Roof. Some people are blind to it; some willfully.
020
Keith M Ellis @kmellis.com · 06/05/2026
Even at the time, people noticed it. I did. It's a blatant use of an antisemitic stereotype and what's super-upsetting is that because of the fantastic setting, people are now accepting the full conflation of goblins and this old depiction of Jews. It started long before her. But this cemented it.

I made it to my 30s before I learned that many people think quotes make something emphatic. The person who clued me asked what I thought people were doing when it was weird and I said that I'd assumed they had someone in mind that said that specific thing and thought for some reason we should know.

Yeah, I had Act of Killing in mind. I didn't realize it at first. But the idea was generic but pointed: a survivor of an old atrocity travels to the land of the perpetrators just hoping to talk to people responsible and he finds that it is everyone and yet also no one, and even he is confused.

A dark satire would be a bildungsroman of a third gen survivor of a genocide traveling to the enemy's land in search of someone in a photograph of an atrocity, and all the people they meet along the way are kind and react with revulsion to their story, each one not knowing they're in the photo.
