A new Roman marching camp discovered in the NL, beyond the borders of the Empire. The site was identified using LiDAR and aerial photography. This was followed by a surface survey with metal detectors and trial excavations, which helped date it to the 2nd century CE. www.uu.nl/en/news/roma...

The discovery of a skeleton in Cirencester, UK, dating from the end of the 3rd or 4th century CE with signs interpreted as osteomyelitis variolosa, the remains of bone inflammation caused by the smallpox virus, provides further evidence of the presence of smallpox in the Roman world.

Archeolodzy odkryli w Orleanie, we Francji, rzymską nekropolię z ponad 60 grobami, w których znaleziono 21 ołowianych tabliczek z klątwami, tzw. defixiones. Jedna z nich zawiera inskrypcję w języku galijskim, wzywającą Marsa do przeklęcia wymienionych osób za ich niesprawiedliwe czyny.
