Can confirm iPhone 18 Pro Max has battery life of about 1.5 - 2 days for me. Even if this goes down quickly, it’s still saving battery cycles, so it should live a lot longer before needing replacement. Definitely makes it heavier though.

So I understand they value merchants’ consent enough to block shopping agents, but don’t value creators enough to stop scraping the entire internet and every rare book in existence. I see. Got it

Everything mentioned here is very erratic behavior for someone with control over 40% of the web, even if he is in the right. All drama aside, I hope he has family/close friends he can talk to, because it seems a lot like he’s cut out everyone who can push back and make him recognise he needs help.

Good, but why now? Why not when he was harassing Tumblr users, WPEngine customers, and WP community members, hijacking plugins, silently changing policies, and dismissing 8% of the company? Was it not clear he was losing it when the court’s injunction said his arguments weren’t compelling?

Just noticed the Office Space reference. I need to rewatch this show, but I fear the humor will be lost because the AI bubble has made things so much more insane than Mike Judge could have parodied in the 2010s

ARR on a still-unproven form of serving ads is disingenuous. We don’t know if they just got lucky with a few customers that spent a huge amount this month, but won’t be coming back next month because the ROI was poor. We’ll know if they mysteriously don’t report ARR numbers after this I guess.

There are new articles this week, citing StatCounter, stating that Linux rose to 10% market share in the US. Exciting if true, but I doubt it is. More bots pretend to be real users than ever now, and as with last time, that messes with the numbers. Web market share stats are no longer reliable.

Right after I complained about how fraud protection is seen as an upsell to Stripe, rather than a core concern to keeping their platform safe, they announced splitting up the fraud product into 4 different tiers. Businesses on the current free tier get downgraded to an inferior service. Great stuff
New Stripe Radar plans and pricing

As fraud on the internet has accelerated over the past few years, we've been rapidly adding to Radar, our fraud prevention product. Last year, we blocked $110B in fraud and shipped dozens of new features. With so much new functionality, we're introducing four tiers—Lite, Standard, Plus, and Pro—and updating pricing.

What this means for you

The version of Radar you've been using is closest to Standard, and you've been receiving it for free. Starting today, you'll receive a free trial of Radar Standard, which now includes broad protection across all payment methods, along with fraud analytics. After the trial ends on January 22, 2027, you'll automatically continue on Radar Standard and be charged A$0.08 per screened transaction.

If you prefer to continue receiving fraud protection for free, you can switch to Radar Lite in one click at any time from the Dashboard. Radar Lite provides essential fraud protection for card payments, powered by Stripe's industry-leading AI models trained on more than $1.9T in annual payment volume. Radar Lite will be included at no additional cost with your payment processing.

In the AI era, we expect new fraud patterns to emerge quickly. To stay ahead, you can upgrade to Radar Plus or Pro for advanced features like custom rules, Adaptive 3D Secure, protection against emerging fraud patterns like free trial abuse, and more. As fraud evolves, so will Radar—we're excited to keep improving to protect your business.

Even for how evil and shameless OpenAI and friends are, directly encouraging using LLMs for health advice is so blatantly careless of people’s wellbeing and management of disorders. They know this, and they choose to not care. In a functioning world, they would all be punished for doing this.

There’s no benefit to consumers if these companies get bigger. Both already dominate online commerce outside of the major outlets like Amazon, and are yet to show why this benefits anyone except shareholders.

Just trying to make a point that Stripe is about as good of a company as PayPal. PayPal is big because they were super early, Stripe got big because they packaged up credit card processing into a <script> tag with a decent API, and launched right when SaaS was taking off. That’s it.

Adam Demasi @kirb.me · 18/07/2026
Stripe is a company that charges you more for fraud controls. Either you do without and risk a $25 penalty each time *their* system misses a bad credit card, or you pay them a fee on every sale to have “advanced” fraud controls. Not even PayPal charges me for their system’s mistakes.

Adam Demasi @kirb.me · 18/07/2026
The way they’ve been trying to force growth on a platform that’s always only done what it needs to do - take a credit card number and charge it - tells me Stripe would love nothing more than to absorb PayPal’s consumer brand and 27+ year strong customer base.

Adam Demasi @kirb.me · 18/07/2026
PayPal and Stripe coast on brand recognition. PayPal at least has a customer base that like it for buyer protection, but Stripe has no moat. They’ve been trying to force one by enabling Link on everyone’s checkouts, which makes customers mad because they think you tricked them.

Adam Demasi @kirb.me · 18/07/2026
A Stripe-PayPal super company would be disastrous. Both are already at such a scale that small businesses’ needs and issues fall through the cracks, and customers have an ever-decreasing chance of being heard by anyone but an AI support bot. This will only make them even more chaotic to deal with.

MediaWiki gets hit pretty badly because of the effectively infinite tree of links it can generate. We host a big wiki and it’s only still up because of strict Cloudflare block rules + captcha walls on low traffic areas. Really sucks it has to be this way.

Adam Demasi @kirb.me · 27/06/2026
It’s still a thing, Cloudflare has the big public CDN that does this now, but it was a product of its time. Internet Explorer had a limit of requests in-flight per server, so the extra DNS lookup cost was worth it. When that went away and we got HTTP/2, it mostly nullified the speed benefit
