Again, much of Pete Hegseth’s deal is the only skill his job demanded for a long time was keeping a trim figure to be conventionally pretty for stay-at-home moms watching daytime tv. His job was “be pretty,” but he knows that’s a girl job, so he’s deeply insecure and is trying to make it a boy job.

I think people wrongly discount the creative content of AI-generated "art". It's like people think Suno is a single button that generates a random song. I'm sure you CAN do that, but it misunderstands how most people use it, and why, in favor of a vague sense that art = work

It's wild that there are still people on this site, in October 2026, who insist that no one should ever use any AI product for any purpose because they "don't work"

The death penalty is a moral abomination. State-sanctioned barbarism pushed by incompetent morons and sanctioned by the Supreme Court. Absolute ghoul shit. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...
The lone woman on Tennessee's death row was still alive after she was administered two lethal injections, her lawyer said in a motion seeking to halt her execution Wednesday night, a stunning development after the Supreme Court had stepped in to allow the state to put her to death.
At 8:26 p.m. local time, witnesses said
"executioners had injected both syringes of lethal injection chemicals and Pike is still alive and snoring," her lawyers said in a federal court filing.
They said Pike "has not lost consciousness and still has a heartbeat," and that curtains to the death chamber "have gone down twice."

Fuck ChatGPT flyers. The future is broadsheets.
A crowded broadsheet with way too many fonts. It says:
Forget ChatGPT Flyers
Say it with
Broadsheets
Unlimited fonts
Stretch them
Or cram a really long sentence into one line for no good reason
No whitespace
Mix capital and lowercase
Pointing hands
(They're called manicules!)
Don't be left behind
Broadsheets are the future

It's great to see tailoring accommodate such extreme movement today. This level of tailoring was a bit more common in the past, as you can see in old films featuring Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly, but many modern suits will lift off the wearer's neck even when they're just walking.

It's great to see economist @justinwolfers.bsky.social making the case that AI has given new urgency to the case for universal basic income, calling it "a payment society is owed rather than a form of redistribution." ALL of us trained those AI models. It's OUR work and OUR data being fed to them.

The issue here is that you can't bring a "reckoning" to a "movement". It would be much more useful to actually break down the details and figure out: what was good, what was bad, what was too much, what was not enough. "Woke" is like 18 separate ideas, many of which are utterly unobjectionable

imo most things that people disliked about 'woke 1' were academic lab leaks of a sort: concepts and frames that are reasonable and appropriate, or at least defensible, when you're developing very precise arguments in conversation with other similar arguments that got distorted in the wild
