This carved stone plaque was found in St Francis' Row in Cashel, and it is believed to be the sign for a tavern that was known as The Cat & Bagpipes, that once stood on the main street. It may date to as early as the 16-17th century, and offers a glimpse of Cashel's social life from centuries ago

The Book of Deer appeared in north-east Scotland for the first time in hundreds of years #OTD in 2022. The 10thC pocket gospel-book was displayed at Aberdeen Art Gallery, on loan from Cambridge University Library. Its Gaelic notes link it to the monastery of Deer, Aberdeenshire.

Searching for something in my Gallo-Romance folder and re-discovering this etymological dictionary of Walloon from 1845 that I found on BnF Gallica, which at some point some linguistic chauvinist angrily objected to the notion of la 'langue' wallonne.

On connaît bien le passé composé (« il a fumé ») ou l’imparfait (« il fumait »)… mais dans une partie du sud de la France, des Alpes et même de Bretagne, on entend aussi une tournure beaucoup plus exotique : « il a EU fumé ».
