On Feb. 20, 1959, the Arrow program was cancelled. On what is known as Black Friday, 14,000 Avro employees lost their jobs. Every Avro Arrow was destroyed as were blueprints and models. Many Avro employees went on to work at NASA and in the Concord program. 📸 LAC 🧵 9/12

If basic human rights are predicated on whether someone committed crimes (see the "except as punishment for a crime" clause in the Thirteenth Amendment), then you create perverse incentives for those in power to create as many "criminals" out of the opposition as possible. Prisoners are humans.

Do you know why I think every prisoner should get to vote in prison? Not only are prisoners counted in the census and are most affected by policies (check out prison gerrymandering), but also if you don't, regimes could simply round up 1,000s of dissidents and minorities to reshape the electorate
