The last few days have been a reminder that it is not our jobs as humans to help others manage their emotions. We can provide them safe space to do so themselves BUT they have to do that work for themselves. Many of us have a hard enough time managing our own without taking on someone else's.

I feel like this book (nobody broke your heart) is one I was meant to read. I am seeing so much of myself in the descriptions of Elliott's depression. Making notes to tell my psych and therapist of my findings. On the opposite end his love of books and creative drive also ring very true to me.

I had an OMG moment reading the book just now Elliott Smith's childhood friend became a psychoanalyst and he said Elliott was prone to cutting people off/going cold Apparently there is a term for that: projective identification I have done this to people my whole life.
