Proposals in my uni to move all those with research contracts from 40% to 25% research along with an unrealistic drop in SSR are part of a roadmap designed to close the humanities. I fear these measures will be adopted by other institutions once poor management gets them into financial trouble.

Well here we go. End of Humanities provision at an institution that championed the value of Humanities even when it was a 1950s Tech College. CP Snow was a fan and wrote in his famous "Two Cultures" (1959) that "the intellectual life of the whole of western society" rested on Science and Humanities.
