New research shows maternal anaemia can have serious consequences for newborn health. Almost 40% of women with moderate or severe anaemia gave birth to babies born prematurely, with low birth weight, or smaller than expected for their gestational age. Read more: www.lshtm.ac.uk/newsevents/n...
Infographic showing birth outcomes among approximately 15,000 women with moderate or severe anaemia enrolled in the WOMAN-2 Trial in Tanzania, Nigeria, Pakistan and Zambia. The headline states that nearly 40% of babies were small vulnerable newborns. A doughnut chart on the left shows birthweight: 15.3% of babies weighed less than 2,500g and 84.7% weighed 2,500g or more. A doughnut chart on the right shows gestational age at birth: 21.7% of babies were born before 37 weeks and 78.3% were born at or after 37 weeks. Between the charts, text and baby icons indicate that 93% of babies were liveborn and 7% were stillborn.
