No lie. We just finished replaying CV, and it was rougher than I remembered. Of all the games, I think it will benefit the most from the remake. My hot take is that RE2 & RE3 surpass their remakes narratively by a significant amount, though RE2make’s gameplay is exquisite.

Truly hope that happens. That RE4make used Castilian Spanish instead of RE4’s Mexican Spanish is a decent sign. Honestly, retconning RE4 to take place in South Africa would open a lot of the right doors for the kind of commentary it seemed to want to make.

“RE7 & RE8 had bad stories, actually” is a hill I’ve repeatedly died on. I think by that point, the series’ shepherds didn’t quite know what they or the fanbase wanted or how to continue the overarching “story” and were fishing. Many threads haven’t been addressed, explored, or explained.

Can’t argue with that; the healing system is super annoying in RE6. I do still prefer it in many, many ways to RE5, both mechanically and narratively (not that RE6 doesn’t have problematic story elements). I basically can’t stomach to replay RE5, tbh.

You’re not wrong! There’s something very freeform and floaty about RE6’s mechanics. I find that it’s the most slippery of the mainline games to play, and possibly the least accurate. It’s the logical culmination of the TPS RE games, but obviously too extreme. You get why the series rebooted.

Things that helped me: -turn up the brightness (the game is too dark for good readability). -use the objective marker button repeatedly. -Prioritize defense upgrades. -you respawn at full health, so avoid healing. -accept that Leon’s campaign is a side story in Chris, Piers, and Ada’s game.

I’ve beaten it twice, and it’s an acquired taste. You have to accept that it’s an adventure horror game, that each campaign is mostly a self-contained narrative, and that it never puts its best foot forward.
