kevin @kevdog.cool · 19/09/2026if i have more time later, i might experiment with having it try to anticipate what will happen at the start of the next measure, based on history. might work! who knows! 010
kevin @kevdog.cool · 19/09/2026i experimented today w/ using jev to jam, but i think i really need to rethink my approach. it's really cool, but the naive approach which is "figure out which chord to play and then play it right away" definitely does not work with a 100ms delay 110

kevin @kevdog.cool · 11/09/2026Like the recurring theme of every show could be "the show must go on." And that's it! There's season one. You're welcome. 000
kevin @kevdog.cool · 11/09/2026Maybe one where Kermit is really sick and he's the one really holding the show together so all those other Muppets whose names you don't even know have to come together to make the show work and they do it against all odds. 100
kevin @kevdog.cool · 11/09/2026Here's one: a crossover with Sesame Street. Elmo is a special guest. 100
kevin @kevdog.cool · 11/09/2026You could do an entire Stadler and Waldorf episode. Maybe they learn not to be so cynical. I don't know. I'm just spitballin' here. 110
kevin @kevdog.cool · 11/09/2026And then one where Kermit is the executive producer and he's really frazzled because he's trying to produce this show but his entire staff are Muppets, who do not exhibit abundant competence. 100
kevin @kevdog.cool · 11/09/2026You can do one where like there's like a B plot where Gonzo is having some kind of like neurotic meltdown. 100
kevin @kevdog.cool · 11/09/2026And then you can do one where like... Miss Piggy is really jealous of Kermit. And that causes a lot of tension on the set and messes up the production. 100
kevin @kevdog.cool · 11/09/2026Hear me out: you could do one where Fozzie can't think of any funny jokes, but he has to think of a funny joke. He's telling real stinkers thru the whole episode. But maybe in the end, the jokes don't have to be funny at all because everybody loves Fozzie. 110
kevin @kevdog.cool · 11/09/2026Kinda like 30 Rock, but with Muppets. You can call it, I don't know, "The Muppet Show." 120
kevin @kevdog.cool · 11/09/2026It seems to me like you could do the show where the Muppets are trying to put on, like, a variety show and you can see what's happening behind the scenes as they struggle to do it, being Muppets and all. But then you're also watching the show that they produce, which is entertaining in it's own way. 140
kevin @kevdog.cool · 10/09/2026Is it even possible to reduce latency to an acceptable level when you must sync to video? Is it even possible to do it over our IP networks? 100
kevin @kevdog.cool · 10/09/2026I remembered learning in college that Bell and AT&T made intentional tradeoffs between audio quality and latency for exactly this reason, but I don't think it's something that the product managers at Zoom or Google think about. 100
kevin @kevdog.cool · 10/09/2026I think this is because of latency. There's a longer time between when I start speaking and you start hearing it and v/v. So it means we both think the coast is clear and start talking at the same moment. 100
kevin @kevdog.cool · 10/09/2026I've been thinking a lot about why video conferencing—particularly Zoom—is terrible for conversation. When I speak with people in person or on the phone, we don't ever talk over each other. It's much easier to read cues about when to speak. But in videoconf, we are always colliding. 100
kevin @kevdog.cool · 10/09/2026I think my favorite was a blackberry-blueberry mix. I also made about a dozen strawberry tarts. They were very good, but not quite as flavorful. 110
kevin @kevdog.cool · 10/09/2026For what it's worth, I've been baking a lot of tarts in my ample free time. 120
kevin @kevdog.cool · 10/09/2026Okay, so toasters were invented to toast bread. But pop tarts were invented to be used by toasters to adapt to the experience of enjoying a tart to the available technology of the mid-1960s. 110

kevin @kevdog.cool · 06/09/2026responsible economists would be considering ways to unwind this bubble, without destroying our ecology or economy. 120
kevin @kevdog.cool · 06/09/2026so if this data center bubble does not burst, we’re looking at widespread (but temporarily local, as you say) environmental destruction. and if it does not work, we are looking at the sort of economic crisis that occurs when trillion dollar bills cannot be paid. 140
kevin @kevdog.cool · 06/09/2026of course you understand that eliminating acid rain and clean air act regulations on ai power plants makes dirty coal more competitive with renewable energy for the data center buildout. particulate and sulfur pollution has a direct and dramatic impact on air quality. locally at first, then globally 140
kevin @kevdog.cool · 06/09/2026as you know, the US EPA has recently excluded off-grid power plants from clean air act regulations. they disingenuously frame this as “consumer protection” www.epa.gov/newsreleases... 150
kevin @kevdog.cool · 06/09/2026to get that power, data center companies propose standing up dirty, off grid power plants that are run by fossil fuels. many proposals include building coal fired power plants. 150
