A Marx quote that makes me think about workers being forced to use AI by their bosses: "Even the lightening of the labour becomes an instrument of torture, since the machine does not free the worker from the work, but rather deprives the work itself of all content."

Joe Rogan and Tucker Carlson, both of whom were VIP guests at the Trump inauguration and GOP festivities today, want you to believe they’re ‘independent’ and anti-Establishment journalists. Ok.

The horrifying thing about the resurgence of fascism is the absence of a stong, militant, and organized socialist movement.

David Lynch on inspiration in diners.
"I used to go to Bob's Big Boy restaurant just about every day from the mid-seventies until the early eighties. I'd have a milk shake and sit and think. There's a safety in thinking in a diner. You can have your coffee or your milk shake, and you can go off into strange dark areas, and always come back to the safety of the diner."

You’ll probably see this screenshot floating around a lot but it really was wonderful to see Lynch put a scene in Twin Peaks: The Return where he has his character literally stare at the camera and say that you should either support trans people or die. I needed to hear that in 2017

Abolishing capitalism won't abolish patriarchy. Aspects of patriarchy that involve capitalism would end eg sexist advertising. But so much of patriarchy is self-reprodicing and can co-exist with socialism eg socialization into gender roles, men treating women as objects, sexual harassment etc.

Ghassan Kanafani's work remains a vital touchstone for revolutionary Palestinian struggle and anti-colonial thought. This book collects his essential work on liberation, history and revolution for the first time in English. Get your copy today: www.plutobooks.com/978074534937...
A book cover of "Ghassan Kanafani: Selected Political Writings" is displayed on the left, showing a black and white portrait of Ghassan Kanafani, with a rough brushstroke effect. The background is split into two colors: coral pink on the top and black on the bottom. To the right of the book cover is a quote from Ilan Pappé, historian and author of The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine. The quote reads, “I cannot think of a better collection to guide anyone seeking a moral role in the struggle for the liberation of Palestine.” The Pluto Press logo appears at the bottom right corner.

"Most assuredly the bourgeoisie has no right to complain of the violence of its foes, since its whole history, as a class, is a history of bloodshed, and since the system of exploitation, which is the law of its life, daily produces hecatombs of innocents." - Errico Malatesta, 1894

Teaching in the arts and humanities now is to be caught in a vice. On the one hand we have the massive deskilling of not only reading, writing, and aesthetic creation by so called generative AI, but the skill of teaching reading, writing, and aesthetic creation. On the other we have the political attack that denounces the knowledge produced in the humanities as irredeemably biased and corrupt, all part of something called "woke," which is just a way of saying that knowledge goes against existing opinions.. These two vices are part of the same process, often promoted by the same people, in which the former is seen as the solution to the later. The machine can "objectively" do what human beings are "subjectively" incapable of doing. I do not really see how the institution of higher education survive this, but I am more worried if thinking, imagining, and creating can survive.

Liberalism as an ideology is built on support for two of the most violent and oppressive institutions in human history: capitalism and the modern nation state. So if you're a liberal who genuinely believes in peace and non-violence, then I suggest you find a new political belief system.
