Those who wish to control higher ed and its students would love if it were. You could ask an AI to summarize the world’s (that is, the west’s) Great Books and you’re done. And you wouldn’t even need to pay for faculty labor. But that is neither teaching nor learning.

I earned my PhD at @utaustin.bsky.social. As an alum, I’m embarrassed by this effort to control which texts faculty may choose to teach. And it’s not like I don’t teach many of these myself! But teaching is not simply assigning students texts.
