Katherine McDonell @kemcdonell.bsky.social · 08/10/2026This whole discussion was demoralizing and infuriating. Grateful to @sandrafornash.bsky.social and everyone who stood up for safer streets. If we can't even implement basic, proven safety measures without months of baseless, bad faith debate, how are we ever going to accomplish anything real? 1131

Katherine McDonell @kemcdonell.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I've been dealing with this for 10 years. Everyone who navigates Nashville outside of a car deals with all of this and much worse on a daily basis. But if we're going to keep going, we need some assurance that it's not going to be like this forever. 1140

Katherine McDonell @kemcdonell.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Here are a few highlights from a 5 minute ride through downtown this morning. None of this is unusual, but it is exhausting. I can handle all of this shit when there's some hope of it getting better. But if we lose that hope, I'm not really sure what we're left with. 1152
Katherine McDonell @kemcdonell.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Here's MNPD describing the process at VZAC. The bar for mandated reporting is very high. For all other crashes, you have to wait hours at the scene for an officer to respond, who then may refuse to take a report (ask me how I know). Crashes reported online do not count. youtu.be/8w2WTJWRs1U?...youtu.beVision Zero Advisory Committee Meeting - August 11, 2026YouTube video by Nashville Vision Zero Meetings 040
Katherine McDonell @kemcdonell.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Because only the most severe crashes end up getting counted, this approach requires more people to be seriously injured or killed before we can make basic, proven safety improvements. Appreciated @quinevanssegall.bsky.social pointing this out in committee yesterday. 160
Katherine McDonell @kemcdonell.bsky.social · 06/10/2026The other problem with this approach is that it is extremely difficult to report crashes, so any data we're basing this on will be a significant underestimate. The vast majority go unreported, and many that are go into a secret database that is not used by NDOT or MNPD when analyzing crash data. 1101
Reposted by Katherine McDonellNeil Kornutick @neilkornutick.bsky.social · 06/10/2026If you’re only willing to make improvements to places that have had crashes, you do not believe in vision zero, you believe in vision not another but if it happens again, we can look at that too. The main point is to prevent serious injuries and deaths. 2277
