Glad to visit Summerland earlier this week. During wildfire response, we had asked people to visit other areas in BC or reschedule to give room for first responders and evacuees, and we are thankful to everyone who did so. But now, it’s time to come back!

We hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. Part of that prep includes working with the City of Kelowna & Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc to proactively set up temporary evacuee accommodation in case of a large evacuation due to wildfires. Read more:

The District of Summerland has partially downgraded the Evacuation Order to an Evacuation Alert for parts of the community. Residence now on evac. alert, can return home, but must be ready to leave on short notice. A boil water notice remain remains in effect for the entire community of #summerland

Yesterday in Kamloops I witnessed the incredible dedication of volunteers supporting those evacuated from their homes. We have the most committed volunteers, staff and first responders (and support pups!) in BC and we are so thankful for their exceptional work.

Today marks 5 years since a devastating wildfire destroyed much of the Village of Lytton, changing the lives of people who lived there. The level of destruction was unprecedented in BC as homes, businesses, records and most of the villages critical infrastructure were lost. (1/3)
