Impossible to invent something as absurd as the Minister for Cracking Down On Truancy And School Lunches not knowing it is the school holidays www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...
Oct 6, 2026 2:56 PM
RNZ Live
'Why are you not in school?' It’s school holidays

David Seymour stopped to speak to some children at Velocity Valley in Rotorua, giving them a piece of advice.

“Don’t trust politicians,” he said. “Are you a politician?,” they questioned.

After the three children asked if he was going to be on the news and waved at the cameras, he said: “hey, one question, how come you guys aren’t at school?”

It’s school holidays, they said.

Seymour said they could still go into school, but the kids didn’t seemed thrilled by that idea.

“No, it’s ok,” they said before walking away.

Even though she didn't pay rent, you cannot visit a tenant without written notice. Also if he was planning on evicting her, he also would need to provide written notice, and if she doesn't move out he should've called the cops, at no point should he be visiting her apartment without notice

Any attempt to regulate these professions to ensure one could make a living wage (e.g. licensing requirements for hairdressers to regulate market entry) is ridiculed They're imagining a bunch of precarious (and conservative) HVAC repairmen owner-operators rather than unionized tradesmen

They evolved in the post-war years, so probably would've been solidly established by 60s-70s. The specialised bakeries (西餅店, "Western bakeries") came in the 70s. It was both a cake shop (when you want to take something fancy when visiting friends and fam), but eventually got into the convenience..

It came out of Hong Kong cha chaan tangs (tea rooms/diners), which, among other fusion Western foods, had bakeries which produced a bunch of unique pastries like egg tarts, "pineapple" buns (the ones with a sweet crust in top, no pineapples), and sausage rolls (brioche with a sausage inside)...

Technical answer: I didn't say candidate donations! Party donations can be, and often are, solicited by candidates. (I actually meant "candidates" as a generic term for agent of party who are not necessarily MPs, but yeah, it's probably too narrow a term)

She says earnestly to her boyfriend, “it’s like you don’t even listen to me anymore…” Panel 2: Her boyfriend, sitting across from her at the table, is making a strained, distracted expression. He says, “babe, I’m sorry— I just—“ Panel 3: he continues, “there is something so insane behind you right now. Behind his annoyed-looking girlfriend, there is a monkey in sunglasses and a backwards cap sitting side-saddle on a parked motorbike.
