The real answer to future-proofing your child's career, of course, it to take all the billionaires' money and use it to fund robust support for infrastructure, scientific research, and the arts and humanities

Me, doing History, 16-18th centuries: I just love reading the handwriting. It is such a joy Then I venture past 1820: I really hate how people wrote in the past It sounds great to cross established lines of space and periodization but you do it and it feels like the laws of physics have changed

With the separation being pushed between "education" and "training", a third space... Public libraries could serve this function, already do, on a shoestring budget but need a lot more support.

What I know from being Black my whole life, and poor for the majority of it, is that politely ignoring a root issue to attend to one closer to the surface is like robbing Peter to pay Paul. It’s a band-aid on a gaping wound, and it will not hold your flesh together for long. The US needs stitches.

I have been reading some of those Founders that US politicians like to reference. Their main concerns included: - is it constitutional? - is it what the People want? (They wrote the Constitution, and yeah I know, The People was a particular subset of a subset of the 7M humans living in the US.)

Best part of being the public services manager for a small research library is having someone walk in with a research question and sitting them down at a computer and together finding some leads with quality sources of information. Some of them open access! 💖

What if we didn't have celebrity? Our species didn't for untold generations. People were known for things they had done or their role in society, sure. Just the importance of being famous for its own sake that is so important in business and politics. Gone.

I am going to be different (difficult?) and say the Chorus of Dragons series (that started with Ruin of Kings) by Jenn Lyons. It's that specific kind of speculative fiction story that treats the story as a text and there are footnotes and editorial notes and that kind of thing. LOTR is also this.

Whatever weird, hurtful stuff you went through, it's yours. It's your stuff. Years later like the contents of a storage locker on I-75, it's still there where you left it and you're paying rent on it. Clean it out, feel what you need to, and see what you can sell. The keep pile is going to be small.

Today's history thought. You never know what documents created in the past actually had an effect on events. They remain good sources of information, from a certain point of view, but may have rotted in some higher up's desk drawer for years. Much like committee/working group reports today. Sigh.
