Waking up before my baby is obviously rubbish cos it means less valuable sleep. But I love the way he eventually opens his eyes and stares for ages at me, a meaningless blob, until his vision rights itself and his brain organises itself and he recognises me and starts grinning and hooting.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... "Too focused on patients' clinical needs and not enough on their need for care" At our local hospital it's next to the induction unit & ultrasound department - they share a waiting room. I've always thought it was insensitive so I'm glad it's being talked about.

We're in Cambridge for a few days. Where should we go with our toddler? He likes walking and looking at things. He's a huge fan of butterflies, tractors, and men with beards.

I've spent almost a decade researching and writing about incredibly difficult histories. I was always able to compartmentalise and deal with it. All of a sudden, since coming back from maternity leave, I can't hack it at all. It's all too upsetting. How can I go back to how I was??

I grew up in a flat in central London. Moved to a town when I was 12 and my God, I was convinced we were about to all be killed in our beds the first time I heard what turned out to be a pair of loved up foxes

Marianne Faithful was once hospitalised in Dublin. My aunt was the Night Sister. A young man turned up at the door very late at night to see Marianne but Ena refused to let him in. "But I'm Mick Jagger!" he cried. "I don't care who you are" said Ena as she slammed the door in his face.

I was referred to the local perinatal mental health team within days of having the baby. For the last 5 months I've been on a waiting list for an assessment. The assessment is today and then I'll be placed on another waiting list. I've basically spent 5 months waiting to wait 😬

Between his big nap, a bottle, and now having a play, I've not seen the baby in 4.5hrs. That's the longest since he was in the NICU five long months ago. In that time, I've transcribed a whole interview & structured the plan for my entire thesis. Now I'm just scrolling photos of him on my phone 😂

Cwtch is one of my favourite words and hearing it takes me straight back to being little and visiting my grandmother's house in Llanelli. Over the years, I've taught it to all the kids I've nannied for and I recently heard my partner telling the baby they were having a cwtch ❤️

If there's a hell, I think it will be very similar to the experience of trying to fix a paper jam in the printer while breastfeeding a baby who desperately needs his fingernails trimmed.

I had a serious chat with the baby yesterday and told him if I can't get on with things then he'll have to go to nursery. Last night, he slept through for the first time ever, and then today he's had a big two hour nap and accepted his other mother giving him a bottle of pumped milk. Hooray!

The baby has been protesting for almost two whole weeks about coming back from Ireland. Impressive. He's basically swapped his daytime and nighttime sleep completely around. I'm so exhausted that I've started randomly falling over. Pretty much forgotten my own name at this point.
