METAMOOD was a two-part reading series and book launch for Wavering Futures, organized by Metatron Press, In the Mood Magazine, and Kawai Shen, held in Toronto and Montréal at Parquette on May 17 and June 7, 2026, respectively. These events featured activities, a collective discussion (in Toronto), and works on the theme of “the future” by Alex Manley, Eli Tareq El Bechelany-Lynch, Gabrielle Marceau, Kate Brooks, Katia Lo Innes, Kawai Shen, Lee Suksi, Marcela Huerta, Nirris Nagendrarajah, Ryan Akler-Bishop, Sennah Yee, and Trynne Delaney. This is an imperfect archive of what transpired.

I am seeking material first published this year, in 2026. To be clear, only weird fiction FIRST published in 2026 is eligible for inclusion in this volume. I will accept translated work as long as the first English-language publication was 2026.

Just sent my editor my piece on labour, AI and @wgawest.bsky.social's 2026 collective agreement ✨ I've read so many contracts and talked to so many organizers, I can't believe I managed to squeeze this all into ~500 words, feeling like an idea compactor...

They weren’t the only unions pushing back against AI. The labour movement continues to be a primary battleground for regulating algorithmic technologies and the legal language of union contracts is sometimes the only language we have that is directly addressing the power asymmetries and exploitation at play. The language of trade publications, businesses, governments and news media appear to have settled on selling us obfuscating narratives of AI innovation, productivity, and inevitability. Most dissenting or skeptical language to be found typically focuses on lost profits for tech investors, or a toothless framework of individual, ethical consumerism.

Yes to this thread! Notetakers aren't stenographers. You must metabolize the meeting (and restructure content logically vs chronologically) for *ease of reference and accountability.* e.g. Provide context; record decisions made + reasoning; create a tasklist with those responsible + deadlines, etc.

Saw someone post about this novel on Discord and I found a draft review I wrote (it's just missing an intro summary but maybe it'll pique your interest more without one...)

Despite the extremity of the narrator's experiences, Notice never feels like “trauma porn” mainly because we are not positioned as voyeurs or careful observers but rather, we are immersed into the narrator's dissociation and internal disorganization. She is both hyper present in her body and numbed to it. She's intently focused on shifts in the energy and emotions of others while being unable to fully account for or even acknowledge the threats they present. Her own feelings are pitched at a shrieking volume, colliding and chasing and drowning each other out. She displays an alarmingly passivity while relentlessly propelling herself away from herself whether it is through intoxication or into the churning chaos of another very ill-advised situation.

Lewis' compelling, laconic voice renders you helpless in the same way. Like the subject herself, you are merely along for the ride. There is a careening, unpredictable quality to her sharp sentences, like she's brandishing a pocket knife that might swerve right into your stomach. Notice accurately captures the twinned terror and tediousness that comes with compulsive, self-destructive behaviour such that the escalating dangers of the novel, while brutal, are also repetitive. The narrator's world is a constricted one as she shunts herself from work to bar to the parking lot where she prostitutes herself, hurls herself from one sexual partner to another, every act a nauseating mix of desire, rage, fear, coercion, tenderness, and sadomasochism. In this way, her paid encounters, lesbian relationships and violent assaults all seem to bleed into one another. Recounted in the same frantic yet detached manner, she's operating at a level that renders consent irrelevant; she is constitutionally unable to say no.
