Forgetting, too, has its place. Carl Phillips, from the Winter 2026 issue of The Fiddlehead
Ever After

As I understand it, it's for me to decide, now, what exactly happened.
The sea.
Like a rolling meadow.
Flowers populate a meadow.
They don't define it.
Forgetting, too, has its place.
The sea with the light on top of it; their backlit shapes; their faces.

The print version is delayed, but you can listen to my story "Revolute" right now. It's about a guy stuck in a time loop at a protest. Sort of. Something's weird about this time loop... Listening to someone else read your story is so strange, but fun--I'm glad The Fiddlehead produced audio versions!

Britt Corcoran's "frankie," from The Fiddlehead's forthcoming Disability: The Revolution issue.
Britt Corcoran

frankie

this body: haphazard glue and glitter,
prophesized form, corporeal.

this body: the heart's unfortunate promise
of existing within itself.

this body: shakily outstretched palms
callus-toughened and grabbing.

does the wreckage of this body
live inside limits, and will you regard

this body with respect? this body:
the fumble that brings our reckoning;

marvelling at how it must feel to exist --
botched and godless in the ether

Matthew D. Del Papa Reviews Speculative Shorts: Stories that fell out of my brain by Cait Gordon | The Fiddlehead
This review is being written under duress. No, Cait Gordon isn’t holding a gun to my head or anything. She’s more subtle than that. Instead, Cait (pronounced “Cat”) went and put together a short story collection so remarkable that anyone reading her book HAS to sing its praises.
